captive episode 8 recap

Warning: Major spoilers for the end of Season 1

As episode 8 begins, two people are killed in a shootout at a local club: local drug lord Sherkhan (wicked p) and one of his associates, who successfully founded Kingsley LaFleur (rodney dijon) and his girlfriend Margot (elodie rosso). The incident made headlines in the local media, shining a harsh light on drug-related violence in Martinique. This has two immediate effects: it makes Kingsley a wanted man for both the police and Sherkhan’s crew, and it leads to Killian’s murder (Jody Grimo) Venezuela approached it with cold feet about safely shipping its kilotons of drugs from the island. As Marco explains, the local police will have no choice but to intensify the drug bust and make an example against whoever is arrested. Marco also issues a clear ultimatum to Killian: either Kingsley will die, or his younger brother Leo – who was taken as collateral for the operation – will die.

Meanwhile, other associates who were facilitating the drug trade also want Kingsley dead. Killian soon learns that his entire crew has received letters from the Dockers Syndicate, led by his associate Jean-Claude, containing a tablet inscribed with “King”. With his associates attacking him, Kiyan meets his estranged brother and laments that his foolish plan has been ruined and the money needed to run the family is gone. Instead of killing him, he gives Kingsley the option of moving away from Martinique and starting a new life in another country. Kingsley immediately refused.

Out of options, Killian recruits Marvin to seek help from another estranged brother: Nathanael LaFleur, who has become addicted to drugs after being thrown out of the clan for accidentally murdering one of his siblings. The three successfully take the truck containing the drugs to a new safe location. Marvin and Killian then return Nate’s custom LaFleur ring to him.

Meanwhile, Kingsley successfully escapes the police and his enemies and visits Margot, who has hidden the drugs she stole from Sherkhan. He then visits the youngest LaFleur siblings and tells them a fabricated story about a “ghost colony”, mirroring his actions at the beginning of the series.

The next day, a meeting is held between Sherkhan’s former associates and Milord’s former crew led by Fatso. They discuss pooling their resources, killing Kingsley, and taking over the business. A hitman joins the conversation and puts Milord (Killian) on speakerphone. As a car passes by and the group sees Killian talking, they get news that the drug shipment is safe – but if they betray Milord, they can kiss the Venezuelan money goodbye. Furthermore, Qian threatened to kill every one of them if anything happened to his brother. The meeting ends abruptly when the crew discovers that a grenade has been placed under their table.

Meanwhile, investigators are contacted by Killian’s father, who claims to have information about Sherkhan’s murder. Killian is arrested but is induced to meet with Alex Croquette (jonathan zaccai). Crockett tries to force Killian to return the money stolen by Kingsley, as well as a 15% tax on future LaFleur business. He confessed that Kian’s father had omitted information and that he had personally prevented investigators from investigating the claims. Kyan still remains indifferent, which threatens to cause huge problems for Crockett’s business as well. As he leaves, he receives a video message showing Leo playing with a gang member’s child; As the video ends, Leo is shot in the head. Kian loses his temper, fearing Leo will die, but then another call comes. Leo reveals that the bullet was blank and was told to say, “The only thing guaranteed is death” – a clear warning from the gang to stop Kian from stealing if he goes to jail.

Kingsley meets with Annabelle, who reveals that Kian sent him with an envelope of cash to convince her to escape the island. Kingsley eventually accepted the offer and took the envelope and the boat keys provided by Killian Connect in exchange for 5% of the product.

In the final scenes of the season, the clan (minus Leo) reunites to swim and relax near a lake. Kyan and Kingsley are reunited, and although Kingsley tries to kill his brother for leaving Leo in the hands of the gang, Marvin separates them. Only Umbre stays away from the fun, not wanting to take any part in her brothers’ illegal activities. Kingsley is assured that someone he trusts will help him start his new life, and he gives Kiyan a stash of stolen drugs in a paper bag to sell.

As Kingsley leaves on a scooter to reach the boat, another scooter approaches him. Kingsley is shot by a young hitman, knocking him into a ditch, and shot again to finish the job. Without thinking, the family’s van passes by the spot. Riding in the van, Killian messes with a family ring, which he then throws out the window.

In the final minutes, a new docker takes over as Milord’s main contact, while Jean-Claude – who introduced Killian to the Venezuelan gang and ordered the attack on Kingsley – is killed. Kian’s father is seen leaving Ducos prison, apparently on parole. In the end, Killian is seen at the LaFleur family grave, apologizing to his mother. The final shot focuses on Kingsley’s body in the ditch; As the camera zooms in, we see that there is no LaFleur ring on her finger. This is a clear confirmation that Qian ordered the attack on his own brother, proving all those who said he wouldn’t dare do it wrong.

Many plot points remain open captiveBecause Kingsley’s murder creates a new set of problems for the clan. Milord/Kylian may have calmed tensions in the drug game, but his relations with Venezuelans remain volatile. His close associates, including Fatso, are already plotting a takeover without him and sooner or later they may attack him again. There is also the case that Crockett is trying to settle the score, get his stolen money back, and with the help of the cooperative police, use his racist disdain for Kiyan’s business to put him in jail. In the end, even if Milord has covered his tracks, the murder investigation may inevitably come back to haunt him. It all promises an explosive Season 2 if ordered.

The show has made a very promising debut on the Netflix charts in France and most importantly globally. As things stand, Netflix hasn’t made Season 2 official. However, Capucin and Eric Rochantwho co-created the series and co-wrote eight episodes (with several directing credits for Eric), has drawn up his own plans telle loisir. He noted that during the shooting of Season 1, he took deep inspiration from the actors playing the LaFleur clan, saying, “If there are future seasons, we have to expand on them and introduce them as characters.”

Although the show was envisioned to run for several seasons, Eric Rochant explained that “It will all depend on the audience. Two seasons are being ordered.” [upfront] It’s very rare, but in any case, we’re preparing for it.” In other words, like many Netflix series, informal progress would have already been made on the season 2 script to facilitate a quick start of production in the event of a renewal. This is the exact way it looked. blood bankThe third season of which is now in production.

Another factor that may come into play captiveThe upside is that Netflix’s French series lineup is currently looking sparse in terms of renewed shows. As of this writing, only hip (which will premiere this fall), cage (which is believed to be in post-production and may premiere soon), and blood bank has been officially renewed for a new season. Candidates are waiting for the news of further seasons Furies (which premiered in March) and cash queens (which premiered in February).
