Netflix is once again teaming up with Bamboo Productions – the powerhouse studio behind the massive international hit assunta case-For another entertaining true-crime drama. Production has officially started en el nombre de marta (the night marta disappeared), a new Spanish limited series inspired by the tragic 2009 Marta del Castillo case.

The six-episode limited series is a dramatic retelling of one of the most shocking and high-profile missing persons cases in modern Spanish history.

“On January 24, 2009, Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old girl from Seville, disappears after leaving home to meet Miguel Carcaño. In a matter of hours, what seemed like a normal teenage outing turns into a national tragedy. What happens next is a nightmare for her family: contradictory versions, false confessions, a body that never turns up, and a justice system that refuses to punish. Despite this, fails to console.”
The series promises to be a careful and respectful reconstruction of everything that happened after her disappearance. It will describe the initial police investigation, the constantly changing stories of Miguel Carcaño and his associates, the ensuing media frenzy, and the continued search for his body.
More importantly, it will focus on the family’s public fight against impunity, showing how the media fueled social tensions and how Spain’s citizens turned Marta’s name into a powerful symbol for justice.

The creative team behind the series includes some of the veterans of the Spanish television industry.

Netflix has announced a stellar cast for the miniseries. Although exact character details are currently being kept under wraps, the confirmed cast list includes:

What is the production status and when will it be released on Netflix?
Filming for the series officially began 21 April 2026Cameras are currently rolling in Seville, Spain – the same city where the real-life events took place.
Since production is still underway, Netflix has not set an official release date yet. Given the typical production cycle of a six-episode European drama, we expect filming of the series to be completed by the end of the summer. the night marta disappeared on track for one Release early to mid 2027.
