virgin river is officially back! Shooting for Season 8 began today, April 22, in Vancouver. Production is scheduled to run through August 10, with a confirmed ten-episode order. Showrunner and executive producer Patrick Sean Smith is returning, keeping Netflix’s longest-running drama in familiar hands.
The cast has been quietly returning to the sets for the past few weeks. Smith was among the first to tease the return on social media, while Alexandra Breckenridge and Zibby Allen have also posted updates from Vancouver. Meanwhile, Martin Henderson – who usually stays away from social media – is set to direct an episode in the first filming block. Fans will remember that he previously stepped into the director’s chair for Season 6, Episode 8, which received much praise. Audrey Cummings and Shannon Kohli are also confirmed to direct upcoming episodes.

Austin Nichols returns as Dr Eli In recurring capacity. Expect to see a lot more of him this season; Smith said that Ellie would bring “new energy” to the show, although he quickly made it clear that it would not develop into another love triangle.
Cody Kearsley Clay, beginning to search for the sister from whom he was separated while in foster care. It is not yet confirmed whether he has been selected for the regular series or not.
matty finocchio Will also return as Tony, the mayor’s assistant, as schedules permit.
As far as departure is concerned, marco grazini And sarah canning are officially out, which means we won’t be seeing Mike or Veronica. Lauren Hammersley Are also out of the series. Charmaine’s arc came to a natural conclusion in Season 7, though it’s worth noting that neither she nor Grizzini got much of a farewell, as they’ve been around since the show’s early days. Finally, Rachel Dreans and Nicholas Coombe (Marley and Eamonn) are not expected to return.

Marley adopted, but her baby was born with a congenital heart defect. This prompted Mel and Jack to flee to a pediatric hospital in Los Angeles, where they met the attending surgeon: EliMel’s former love interest from her Nurses Without Borders days.
Brady and Brie finally get back togetherBut happiness quickly turns to panic when Brady crashes his motorcycle to see her. His fate completely hung in the air. Benjamin Hollingsworth has been coy in interviews about his return, although when we spoke to him previously, leaving didn’t seem to be an option. Over the past few seasons, Brady has developed into one of the show’s most compelling characters, sometimes holding more narrative importance than Jack himself.
Meanwhile, Preacher spent most of season 7 expanding Jack’s bar. When Jack makes it clear that he has no interest in changing what he has created, Preacher decides to open his own restaurant. He asked Jack to buy his share in the bar and Jack agreed. The season ended with Preacher sitting alone with an unsigned contract in front of him.

A major conflict arises between the Doctor and Hope when the Doctor commits to a permanent partnership with Grace Valley Cares without consulting her. This decision was shocking, especially considering everything Hope had struggled with in Season 7 — and the fact that another person in her life had recently made a big decision behind her back. We got the full picture via her ex-husband Roland, who revealed that Hope’s father didn’t hit her head on out of ego, but did so to protect her. The family lumber business was deep in debt, and he knew she would never agree to sell. The season concludes with a poignant moment: Hope scatters her father’s ashes in the river with Roland.
Everything We Know About Season 8
Patrick Sean Smith confirms season 8 will debut four month time jump Skipping the immediate medical aftermath of the Season 7 finale. However, recent casting calls for Neighbors roles suggest that we’ll be getting some flashbacks to fill in the blanks. Thematically, Season 8 will explore sacrifice, exorcism and reincarnation. According to the listener, Jack’s farm is finally getting off the ground which provides a literal basis for that “rebirth” theme.
The heaviest emotional burden will fall on Mel and Jack. Now, the couple, who are first-time parents to a child with serious medical needs, are in uncharted territory. Smith teased that season 8 will delve deeper into the strain this high-stakes situation places on the marriage, promising that it won’t just be lighthearted flicks and miraculous fixes.
Elsewhere in town, Denny will be going through the medical school application process now that his MCAT results are in, and Lizzie is going back to work.
We’ll also learn about the true severity of Brady’s motorcycle accident. Given how central he has become to the series, his story is easily one of the most anticipated arcs to watch this year.
Bree continues to help Clay locate his sister-A brand new character is expected to debut this season. Clay would also step up to the farm as Jack’s right-hand man.
Ultimately, in a surprising turn of events, Everett and Muriel are headed toward a real romance. After Smith firmly closed the door on the pair for years during the press tour for Seasons 5 and 6, this change is a very noticeable change of pace. Plus, we’ll see Jack and Preacher’s friendship put to the test – we still have to find out if Preacher really signed that buyout contract!
There’s still more to come virgin river Season 8 whenever we learn more. Filming is expected to be completed by August 10 and a release is expected in 2027.
