Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to Deeply personal documentary room to moveWhich will officially make its streaming debut on Netflix in the United States on May 27. It’s a major festival pickup from 2025, with the film still without a streaming home in the United States. Doc originally made waves as world premiere 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming documentary.

What is Room to Move About?

Directed by Alexander Hammer, the visually expressive doc follows the life of acclaimed choreographer, artist and teacher Jane Freeman as she navigates a deeply transformative chapter in her life: receiving a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) at the age of 33.

Here’s the official logline and what you can expect from the documentary:

“A respected force in the contemporary dance world, Jane built a thriving career through precision, artistry and discipline. However, privately, she struggled throughout her life with sensory stress, social friction, pain and unspoken questions about her experience of the world. From a young age, movement was her language – leaping, spinning and writhing through a reality that often felt too loud, too fast and simply ‘too much’. Dance became both her outlet and survival mechanism. Yet, it wasn’t until she was diagnosed late in life that she finally got the answers she knew she wanted.’

The film tracks Jane as she teams up with Tony Award-winning choreographer Sonya Tayeh for her first evening solo performance, Is It Thursday Yet? Is preparing for. In the midst of a major life change—moving out of her longtime New York City home—Jane began piecing together the emotional and neurological roadmap of her life.

Interestingly, the documentary is not limited to just Jane’s story. Filmed with what has been described as “extreme intimacy”, the journey resonates behind the camera as well. Director Alexander Hammer eventually turns the lens inward, transforming what begins as a portrait of a dancer into a sweeping exploration of identity, expression, and the search for clarity.
