Netflix is diving into the true story behind some of the minds who are leading the AI/LLM boom right now. The streamer has recently announced a brand new Polish feature film inspired by the life of Ryszard Szubartowski, a renowned IT teacher who helped shape the minds behind the AI revolution, including the key people behind OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPIT.
For more than a quarter of a century, Ryszard Szubartowski has proven that Poland is an absolute powerhouse for IT talent. As co-founder of the Talent Association (Stvorgyszenie Talent) and a distinguished teacher, he developed a unique, practical teaching system for young students. Result? Shocking. During his tenure, 126 of his students became winners of the National Olympiad in Informatics. Nearly 40 represented Poland on the international stage and won 60 medals, including 33 gold.
But Szubartowski’s true legacy lies in the people who are currently building the future of global technology. His former students include jacob patchocki (Chief Scientist of OpenAI), szymon sidor (a key engineer behind the GPT models, including GPT-4), and philip wolsky (World Champion and AI Systems Expert in Team Programming).
A new, currently untitled feature film will be produced flightswith Marek Klosowicz Serving as producer.
“Meeting Professor Szubartowski was one of those moments when I saw clearly how talented young Poles can influence the fate of the world,” said Lukas Kluskiewicz, Content Director, Netflix Central and Eastern Europe. “The story of the professor and the teams he works with is proof that there is an incredibly strong, mature school of technological thinking in Poland.”
“The film will not just be a fascinating story. It is also a tribute to the community of Polish scientists and engineers, and a reason to be proud of them,” Kloskiewicz concluded. “We also want to show audiences that some of the innovations that make Netflix run so smoothly were born right here on the Vistula River.”
