Filming is complete and what else we know about season 3
To further this massive fantasy epic, Netflix filmed seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back (albeit with a short break) following its double renewal. Here’s a recap of what we know so far:
To celebrate the wrap in November 2025, Netflix shared a behind-the-scenes photo of our main team Avatar: Gordon Cormier (Aang), Kianventio (Katara), Ian Owsley (Sokka), Dallas Liu (Zuko), Mia Cech (Top), and Maria Zhang (Suki). Executive producer Christine Boylan expressed her eternal gratitude to the team, noting that they achieved “integrity, hope, and happiness” throughout the three-year production journey.
The production took the cast to Iceland for a month of on-location shooting before concluding in Vancouver. There are some familiar and new faces stepping behind the camera for Season 3. Jabbar Raisani (who serves as supervising director, head of VFX and executive producer) will direct the first block (episodes 1 and 2) and the series finale. Joining the fray is Rachel Goldberg (Agatha All Along, american god), directing episodes 3 and 4, and Karen Gaviola (boys), based on episodes 5 and 6.
Season 2 is expected to arrive in June 2026, with season 3 expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in early 2027.
Season 3 Episode Titles and Lore Predictions

Like Season 2, the count will be slightly lower in the third and final season 7 episodes.
As fans of the original Nickelodeon show know, Book Three: Fire is huge. Rumor has it that the live-action series will aggressively streamline the first half of the animated season. This means episodes like “filler” (but beloved) The Painted Lady Or fugitive Can be cut completely so the show can go on.
Here are the official titles, courtesy of Night Edge MediaAnd our predictions on how they’ll translate from the cartoon’s lore:
Episode 1: Khandul (Written by: Helen Shang)
- Prediction: “Khandul” is not a term directly used in the main animated series, but fans are already discussing two major theories. Firstly, it has its roots in Tibetan/Air Nomad naming conventions (e.g. Khandro, an Air Nomad philosopher from the extended avatar rpg Knowledge). Because Aang ends book two seriously injured by Azula’s lightning, the episode could follow his coma and spiritual journey.
Episode 2: Eight Minutes (Written by: Teresa Huang)
- Prediction: hardcore fans know Absolutely What does it mean? According to legend, “The Day of the Black Sun” – the solar eclipse where firebenders completely lose their bending – lasts exactly eight minutes. The title confirms that a massive invasion of the Fire Nation is being moved forward from the animated show mid-season.
Episode 3: Soul of All Nations (Written by: Emily Kim)
- Prediction: This title is a fantastic hint of the extended theory! in recent novels Roku CountThere is a chapter titled “A Spirit of No Nation”, which details Roku’s realization that avatars cannot show allegiance to any one country. Therefore, it is expected that this episode will likely adapt “The Avatar and the Fire Lord”, exploring Roku and Sozin’s tragic differences, and cementing for Aang what it truly means to be the Avatar: the spirit of all nations.
Episode 4: Ghosts of the Old World (Written by: Keely Macdonald)
- Prediction: it is Firebending Masters Everything is written on it. “Ghosts of the Old World” perfectly describes the Sun Warriors, an ancient, supposedly extinct civilization that worshiped the original source of firebending. Expect Aang and Zuko to travel to their ruins to meet the last surviving dragons, Ran and Shaw, to learn that fire is about life and energy, not just destruction.
Episode 5: Fire Remakes the World (Written by: Christine Boylan)
- Prediction: This hair-raising title depicts Fire Lord Ozai’s grand plan during Sozin’s Comet. Ozai intends to burn the Earth Empire to ashes using the power of the comet, literally remaking the world in his own image and dubbing himself the “Phoenix King”. The episode will likely set up harrowing stakes for the finale and may also include Zuko and Sokka’s infiltration of Boiling Rock prison.
Episode 6: Two Islands (Written by: Phineas Kiyomura)
- Prediction: “Two Islands” is a film with a brilliant double meaning. The first island is of course Ember Island, where Team Avatar hides out. The second “island” is presumably the mysterious land that Aang wanders onto when he’s conflicted about taking Ozai’s life, who turns out to be an ancient, energy-bending lion turtle in disguise!
Episode 7: All Those Who Stand Against the Flame (Written by: Gabriel Llanas)
- Prediction: Grand finale. It will adapt the legendary four-part “Sozin’s Comet” conclusion. The title symbolizes a united front against the Fire Lord: the Order of the White Lotus freeing Ba Sing Se, Sokka, Toph, and Suki from the planeswalker fleet, Katara and Zuko’s fight against Azula’s tragic, visually stunning Agni Kai, and Aang’s final showdown with Ozai.
