“Go fuck yourself,” said Shane Gillis.
gillis wasn’t talking bill simmonsJoe managed to get his podcast through some choppy waters at the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. At the 95-year-old Wiltern Theater in Koreatown, Simmons joined on stage tire Producer Gillis, John McKeeverAnd steve gerben. An unwelcome guest: a heckler.
Gillis was speaking specifically to that combative audience member, to whom McKeever also asked, “Can you shut the fuck up?” At last the commotion started. “enough of the game,” they shouted. Yes, at a taping with Bill Simmons – one of the greatest sports podcasters alive – an attendee wanted less sports.
More jokes. More Tony-style kills. Roast something. Gillis, come on, do your Donald Trump impression…
After maybe five minutes, maybe ten minutes, Gillis noticed that he loved Security.
Earlier, Simmons and tire The creators’ performance wasn’t exactly a house on fire, but it didn’t help that there were so many empty seats at a “sold out” show. Simmons commented on this. This is a common problem, thanks to the resale market.
Someone who probably wouldn’t have participated in this anyway is former NHL star shaun averywho allegedly wants to “kill” tire Creator. The former New York Ranger was up for a role in a half-hour comedy show. His audition reportedly went well, but he did not get the part and did not take well to L. According to Gillis, Avery told him: “I see you’ll be at Madison Square Garden this week. I’m going to be there during your show yelling ‘You suck.'”

McKeever said: “He told me, ‘I’m going on Shane’s show. I’m going to go in the green room and kill you.’ I was like, this would be too easy. This would be the easiest kill for you.” Gillis and McKeever then enjoyed imagining a fight between Steve Gerben and Sean Avery. He argued that it would not end well for Gerben either.
Soon, Gerben will become the butt of the joke again in season three of Tires, which will premiere on August 13 with 12 episodes. The loose comedy started well and improved in season two. It was more polished, but scarcity is still a part of it tire‘Rough-edged charm. Gillis, Gerben, and McKeever wrote season one in 12 days, then shot it in even less time. Quibi bought it, then Quibi died before Microdrama gained popularity.
“Fuck Quibi,” Gillis joked.
Although Gillis may not have actually felt that way about the short-lived streaming service, he certainly looked and sounded like he meant it to the hecklers. Unwanted audience participation ended the night on a sour note, raising questions about audience behavior, entitlement, and main character syndrome. Professionals like Bill Simmons, comics, or any other artist performing on Netflix Is a Joke or anywhere else in the world should not have to deal with crowd interruptions and instructions. Netflix is a joke, have a good time. This is the week of laughter when laughter is much needed. Bill Simmons and the guests deserved better times.
