Well, that was definitely a big finale. We had a battle between Earth and Hell, two giant demons fighting, a big decision from Virgil, and a big reveal that kicks off Season 3. Let’s see what happened in the end Devil May Cry What this means for Season 2 and the future of the Netflix adaptation.
In case you missed it, we also interviewed its creator Adi Shankar Devil May CryWhich gave some insight into the big arcs of Season 2 and beyond!
Concluding Passage: Dante and Virgil
Most of season one was divided into two parts. The latter half focuses on Dante who is tasked by a secret company called Darkcom to help him take down Mundus, the King of Hell, while also searching for his long-lost brother Virgil. Then we have the story of Virgil, who is on a quest for vengeance as he hunts down those responsible for his mother’s death. The two brothers spend the season on a collision course, engaged on opposite sides of a conflict that is not really what they believe.

History of Corn Explained
Throughout the season we also learn a lot about the history of corn. The finale reveals how Dante and Virgil’s father, Sparda, helped free Makai from its previous tyrant and why he abandoned Hell and went to Earth after a major battle with his former friend, Mundus. Devil May Cry This isn’t just a show with spectacular monster battles, as it is a not-at-all subtle allegory of post-9/11 paranoia and the Iraq War. The war between Earth and Hell is just an excuse for a group of megalomaniacal fanatics to seize power, and it comes to a head in the end.
Argus, Argosax and the Rift to Hell
The leader of the Uroboros Corporation, Argus is revealed to have been seeking immortality for centuries with the help of Argosax, the previous ruler of Hell. In the final two episodes, Argus frees Argosax and joins him, gaining incredible power. But before he can destroy the Earth, Dante and Virgil open a rift in Hell and push Argus inside, hoping that Mundus can defeat Argosax once again.
Virgil’s final choice and confrontation with Mundus
Like the first time, Mundus manages to kill Argosax without much effort, but still leaves a huge and powerful demon – and also a giant portal that Mundus’s entire army can use to invade Earth. While Dante races to close the rift, Virgil takes the opportunity to talk to Mundus about his mother’s death. The King of Hell does not even deny this, but instead tries to justify his ordering of Eva’s death to prevent her from influencing the two brothers, and confesses that he lied to Virgil to make him his best warrior.
In the ensuing battle, Virgil decides to push Dante into the rift with his father’s sword, effectively sealing the rift behind him. He then battles Mundus for control of the Makai, and decides that Hell is now his home, and he will lead them in a future invasion against Earth.

Does Virgil die in the season 2 finale?
Does Virgil die? We really don’t know.
Last we see him, he’s fighting Mundus, a formidable opponent that even Virgil’s father can’t defeat. Before we find out who wins the battle, we are cut to Earth, where Dante falls from an incredible height and begins to recall his childhood memories of Virgil. Meanwhile, Lady sets out to find the man who murdered her mother. She also finds footage from DARKCOM that shows her father is still alive, and that he is actually the demon clown who has been playing double agent inside Mundus’s court throughout the season.
What this means for Devil May Cry season 3
So we’re left with the promise of another bittersweet, heartbreaking reunion for Season 3.
How will Lady react to her father’s new look and role in Makai? Does Virgil really win against Mundus, and will he invade Earth? Adi Shankar recently told us that he has the story of Devil May Cry If Netflix lets it do it, it’s going to be figured out for the next 10 years. Whatever happens next, it will definitely be emotional and based on a great soundtrack.
