How well did Running Point Season 2 do on Netflix?
If you followed our Top 10 reports here on What’s on Netflix, you’ll know that Running Point season 2 had a somewhat softer launch than many of us were expecting.
While Season 1 was a breakout hit in early 2025, Season 2 took a minute to warm up on the bench. However, the show demonstrated word-of-mouth growth in its second week, which is often a key indicator that Netflix looks at when deciding the fate of a show. (You can read the full details of everything we knew before this renewal in our comprehensive Season 3 preview).
Let’s take a look at the data along with the show’s run so far in the global top 10:
- Season 1 (February/March 2025): It spent 6 weeks in the global top 10, earning 181.4 million viewing hours and 35.8 million completed views (CVE).
- Season 2 (April/May 2026): Has spent 3 weeks so far in the global top 10, joining:
- week 1: 5.3 million views (debut)
- Week 2: 6.7 million views (+27% increase)
- Week 3: 3.3 million views (-51% decline)
While Season 2 is currently running lower than Season 1, the 27% jump in Week 2 was significant. In an environment where we’ve seen some worrying news for underperforming comedies, the upward momentum combined with Kate Hudson’s star power was clearly enough to push Season 3 over the finish line.
What happened at the end of Running Point season 2?
WARNING: The following section contains spoilers. proceed with caution!
Season 2 of Running Point was an absolute rollercoaster for Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) and the LA Waves, culminating in a championship win and a major betrayal.
Throughout the season, Isla was fighting battles on all fronts. Not only did she have to deal with the LA Waves City Dancers’ viral strike (resulting in Isla wearing sequins to settle the dispute and incorporating them into Ciara’s “Get Up” routine), but she also almost lost her chief of staff, Ali (Brenda Song). Fed up with being ignored while demanding a raise, Ali accepts a lucrative offer from the Toronto Raptors, forcing Isla to fly to Canada and get her best friend back.
But the biggest headache was undoubtedly his brother, Cam (Justin Theroux). After getting out of rehab early, a less sober Cam spent the season secretly plotting to take back the presidency from Isla. He embezzles millions from the team, allies himself with OC toilet mogul Al “The Flush Man” Fleischman (Ken Marino), and attempts to buy out the board. Fortunately, her siblings foil her coup when Jackie acquires an audio recording of Cam in which he admits that he used Jackie’s urine to pass his drug test. Cam was ousted, and his shares were distributed among his siblings.
Isla’s personal life was equally chaotic. She officially breaks off her engagement with Lev just before the rehearsal dinner and eventually rekindles her romance with former LA Waves coach Jay (Jay Ellis). However, Jay is now the coach of their biggest rival, Boston.
Despite all the drama, the season ended on a good note. In the finals against Boston, star player Marcus returns from experimental knee therapy just in time to hit the game-winning three-pointer, securing the championship for the LA Waves.
Season 3 cliffhanger:
The next morning after the championship bender, Isla and her siblings wake up to a terrifying news broadcast. A deposed Cam has partnered with “The Flush Man” to purchase and revive another historic Los Angeles franchise: LA Industry. To make matters worse? They announced that their new head coach is none other than Jai.
Cam is running a rival LA team and Isla’s girlfriend is coaching them, setting up the season 3 ultimate crosstown rivalry.
