As this highly anticipated second installment marks the definitive departure of the iconic Andres de Fonoloosa (Pedro Alonso), Netflix has made one thing very clear: the world of money heist (la casa de papel) is not over yet.
If you’ve already caught up with the Seville-based heist, you’re probably wondering where the franchise goes from here. berlin The ending to Season 2 was pretty explosive, but it didn’t really give much of a hint as to where we’re going next. What has Netflix officially announced so far, and more importantly, what have creators Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato said they are planning next?
Where? money heist proceed? Season 6?
Let’s quickly go back to that original announcement.
During the promotional campaign, which was widespread throughout Spain, Netflix used the launch of the show to confirm that the franchise would continue. The announcement came on May 9, when Netflix hosted an epic overnight takeover of the Guadalquivir River in Seville for 4,000 fans and 700 VIPs, crowned by a show-stopping performance of Rosalía. Thousands of fans watched as boats filled with people wearing the iconic red jumpsuits and Salvador Dali masks floated down the river to the rhythm of the river. bella ciao.

During the event, Netflix released a brand new teaser and promotional image with a clear message: “What happens next has already begun.”
Netflix officially said, “Money heist stories don’t end with Berlin and the woman in the ermine,” This confirms that the universe is actively expanding. But what exactly does that mean? So far, we have come short, although the prevailing view, as we put it in our early writings, is that this will continue straight away. money heist series, given that the teaser ends with the gold bars being dug up.

The video ended with Álvaro Morte removing his Dally mask amid the crowd, and came with the caption: “Every dream and every ship needs a captain: Álvaro Morte leads our crew of red jumpsuits and Dally masks declaring that the Money Heist universe is alive.”
Judging by this video and a tweet from Netflix India stating that the professor has returned, it implies that our next adventure will be with Alvaro Morte, although, once again, there are no exact details regarding the return, and there is no mention of a season 6. Fans are widely speculating online as to whether we might see a proper Season 6 in which the Professor assembles an entirely new crew for a new international goal.

second season of berlin Goes out with a big bang. Berlin and his crew successfully conducted a masterclass in deception against the Duke of Málaga, Álvaro Hermoso de Medina.
The gang manages to escape with $75 million after braving a terrifying, on-fire underground vault (congratulations to Bruce and Roi for escaping the flames). But the real genius of the finale lies in the art theft. Instead of fencing off Alvaro’s hidden collection of stolen masterpieces, Berlin takes the high road. After a brilliant cameo (labeled as a special appearance in the credits) and a warning from his brother, the Professor (Sergio), Berlin decides to spare Alvaro’s life by anonymously returning a Caravaggio-like masterwork. The Nativity To their rightful museums. That leaves the Duke with only him woman with ermine– a piece that is ironic in hindsight Sold to Polish government for €100 million.
The finale involves several character arcs, though not all of them happily:

While several characters discuss another upcoming job in Marseille, Netflix has ruled out any future entries in Berlin. In a recent press release sent out from the USA team, they wrote the following: “Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine is the final chapter of Berlin’s story, offering the definitive farewell to one of the most iconic characters of the MONEY HEIST universe.”
According to the show’s producers, this decision (before the announcement of the continuation of Money Heist) was completely under pedro alonso. according to a Behind the scenes report by El DiarioAlonso had called a meeting with the creators just two months earlier in which he had said that he wanted to leave behind the character he had been playing for almost ten years.
Alex Pina said of Alonso’s departure (translated from Spanish): “We met for coffee one day and he told us. It was a surprise. We love writing this character because he has the ability to go from one genre to another, from darkness to light, to comedy and light. For a writer, that’s amazing. So it makes me very sad that this journey with Berlin is ending, but I think it was also necessary to end it to open up to others.”
Pina respected the decision, saying, “In the end, the one who carries the weight and embodies him is Pedro, and I understand that there comes a moment when he wants to step out of the character. He explained it to us very well. There comes a moment when you have to leave that skin, that soul, and I understood that, so we weren’t under too much pressure either.”
Esther Martínez Lobato said that she had a lot more plans for the character, “especially because we have so many pending stories. We have a document with many ideas that have come up over time. We did many adventures in many places around the world and with many women, because it was about heists and combining that extreme character with romantic stories. I asked her: Wouldn’t you like to see Berlin here or there? Because I wanted a story to frame her. I can think of a thousand stories.”
Could Money Heist go international (again)?
You may remember that we’ve already expanded into the world of Money Heist Money Heist: Korea: Joint Economic ZoneWhich ran for one season before being quietly canceled behind the scenes, but was mostly criticized for being a 1:1 retelling rather than an actual expansion of the world.
We’ve mentioned it before, and I’ll bang this drum whenever I get a chance, but a Bollywood spin-off would be most appropriate, given that the series is so popular in India. In fact, the series has now appeared in the top 10 for 884 days, which is more than it has ever appeared in Spain (159 days).
