The dust has settled at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles after Ronda Rousey’s explosive (or ridiculous – your choice) 17-second armbar submission on Gina Carano, and Netflix has now released official viewership figures for the event. According to a new press release, the blockbuster live triple-main event attracted an estimated average minute audience (AMA) of 12.4 million viewers (Live+1) globally.
Here’s how it stacks up against prior fight events, and according to Netflix’s own metrics, it looks to be a step down from the towering heights of the streamer’s previous MVP-produced mega-fights. And it’s worth noting that we didn’t get official stats for Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov. More than the 5M figure posted here.
Although the event generated massive social media buzz and dominated trending topics around the world, viewership remains down compared to last December’s Jake Paul vs. Anthony Joshua and the record-breaking Paul vs. Tyson event the year before. Below, we break down the new metrics, compare them to past Netflix live sports events, and analyze what the data says about the streamer’s evolving combat sports strategy.
Note: This report uses data from Netflix’s official press release issued on May 19. That’s not to say that these comparisons aren’t completely apples-to-apples given the different methodologies, but they do provide a general point of direction.
Unlike last time around for the Paul vs Joshua fight, where Netflix only provided the global Live + 1 figure, thankfully this time we have details of both the US and global view.

What immediately stands out is how much the audience was skewed toward the United States. Of the 12.4 million global viewers, a large share of 9.3 million came from the US alone, reaching 11.6 million domestically during the Rousey vs. Carano fight. Viewership reached approximately 17 million globally.
The triple-main card, produced by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) and EverWonder, featured “King of Violence” Mike Perry winning by TKO against Nate Diaz after a referee stoppage before the third round, while Francis Ngannou defeated Brazil’s Filipe Lince in the first round.
Social media and ringside engagement
In addition to AMA data, Netflix also released some serious social data this time:
- 1.0 billion impressions on Netflix’s global social channels.
- The battle continues to dominate X (formerly Twitter) in the United States #Rousey Carano Nate Diaz, Jake Paul, held the #1 trending spot all evening, along with related terms like MVP MMA and Netflix MMA.
- Globally, the fight reached #1 trending in Brazil (no doubt due to local star Lince being badly knocked out by Ngannou in the first round) and #3 trending in the UK. Ultimately appearing in the daily top 10 in 69 countries.
What’s next for Netflix Live events?
Rousey vs. Carano is Netflix’s fourth live event produced in partnership with MVP, following Paul vs. Tyson, Taylor vs. Serrano III and Paul vs. Joshua.
In conclusion, this is undoubtedly a disappointing global showcase of fighting compared to prior MVP boxing events, but a highly concentrated domestic hit. Did Rousey and Carano being viewed as legacy fighters returning to the cage reduce international interest? Did fans walk out early because the headliner only lasted 17 seconds?
Regardless, Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano is the latest in Netflix’s aggressive expansion into live television. Upcoming live events include five NFL games this upcoming season, marking the highly anticipated debut wwe rawand major MLB specials including Home Run Derby and Field of Dreams. This is in addition to Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix in the US on May 23, as well as the expected clash between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury later this year.
