It’s been over a year since the second season of tex mex motors dropped on Netflix, leaving gearheads and fans wondering if the crew would ever return to the range to hunt down another batch of rusty gems. Here’s everything we know about the possibility of a third season — and unfortunately, the news isn’t looking good.
For those who need a quick refresher, tex mex motors It follows a ragtag team of automotive experts who discover dilapidated classic cars across the border in Mexico, take them to their shop in El Paso, Texas, and restore them into high-dollar masterpieces. The series released its six-episode second season in late 2024, although the premiere was heavily overshadowed by the tragic and sudden passing of co-creator and beloved star Rob “Rabbit” Pitts, who lost a battle with colon cancer in August of that year.
Since then, Netflix has been incredibly quiet about the future of the series. But thanks to some social media sleuthing and digging deep into the show’s production network, we have a fairly clear picture of where Tex Mex Motors stands by mid-2026.
what the artists are saying
Because Netflix has been notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to officially canceling its reality programming, fans have often had to look to the cast for answers. Recently, cast member Jaime Hjelm opened up about the state of the show in his Instagram comments section.

In October 2025, when the series proudly received two Daytime Emmy nominations, fans posted in the comments asking for a new season. When a fan wrote, “We need a new season,” Jaime responded:
“I know!! We’ve all been waiting patiently.”
When another fan suggested it should be an annual show, he replied:
“I wish we loved cars this much…”
Unfortunately, as the months passed, the updates didn’t get any more promising. In January 2026, when a Portuguese-speaking fan asked when new episodes would arrive, Jaime gave a candid update:
“They haven’t renewed ours yet.”
Recently, in March 2026, a fan directly asked, “Will there be a season 3?” robert petit replied: :
“Not that we’ve heard… fingers crossed!”
production is completely halted
To corroborate the cast’s statements about the show being in limbo, we’ve studied the behind-the-scenes crew’s resumes, LinkedIn profiles, and online portfolios. Typically, if a reality show is gearing up for a new season, we’ll see camera operators, producers, or location scouts updating their current work history to reflect this.
So far, we’ve found absolutely no evidence that Tex Mex Motors is in pre-production, currently filming, or scheduling a shoot.
Adding fuel to the fire is the recent track record of Netflix’s automotive reality shows. We have recently confirmed this Car Masters: From Rust to Riches Canceled after six seasons.
For a long time, Car Masters was the premier gearhead show on the platform. The fact that Netflix is putting the brakes on its longest-running car restoration series suggests that the streaming service is either reevaluating the genre’s return on investment or moving away from this specific genre of unscripted programming altogether.
Finally, there’s the undisputed elephant in the room: How do you keep Tex Mex Motors going without Rob “Rabbit” Pitts?
The rabbit was the heart and soul of the show’s Mexican car-hunting expeditions. His dynamics with the scooter drove the story forward as much as the rebuilding of the engine did. While it’s not entirely impossible to move a show forward or reinvigorate a show after losing a star, many fans on social media and Reddit have expressed that doing so may seem hollow.
Although Netflix hasn’t stamped an official “canceled” label on Tex Mex Motors, all signs point to the show being quietly shut down. Between the lack of crew activity, the cast waiting on the phone, and the recent removal of the Car Masters, fans should probably consider Season 2 the final stop for the El Paso crew.
