The Lowdown: What is the TED series about?

Serving as a prequel to the huge 2012 comedy film (which frequents Netflix on a regular basis globally), the series turns the clock back to 1993. Ted the Bear’s fifteen minutes of fame is long gone, and he is now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett.

The series captures the classic, boundary-pushing humor of Seth MacFarlane while wrapping it in the structure of vintage family sitcoms from the ’90s. John and Ted deal with the awkwardness of high school, first crushes and teenage rebellion – usually resulting in disastrous, R-rated trouble for both of them, much to the dismay of John’s working-class parents and progressive cousins.

seth macfarlane returned to write, direct, and provide the iconic voice and motion capture for Ted. He is also joined by a hilarious live-action group:

  • max burkholder (parenthood) stepping into Mark Wahlberg’s shoes as young John Bennett.
  • Alana Ubach (Excitement) as John’s loving, long-suffering mother, Susan.
  • Scott Grimes (orville, American Dad!) as John’s loud, traditional father, Matty.
  • Georgia Whigham As Blair, John’s eccentric, college-aged cousin who lives with the family.
