what is the plot of Akane-banashi?
Full summary sourced from My AnimeList:
“Rakugo, a traditional form of storytelling, takes years for any apprentice to master and reach the top rank of shinuchi. Ever since she can remember, Akane Ousaki has been mesmerized by her father Toru’s rakugo performances. Peering from behind a sliding door, she would spend hours watching and imitating his work.
For Toru, the only thing separating him from that coveted rank is a promotion exam in front of an audience and a senior rakugo master, Isshu Arakawa. Despite his spirited performance, Toru finds himself expelled from the Rakugo school after the exams. This causes him to abandon rakugo altogether and turn to a regular job, leaving his daughter heartbroken.
Filled with grief and anger, Akane now seeks revenge against the man who refuses to see the talent behind her father’s rakugo style. She begs Toru’s former rakugo master, Shiguma Arakawa, to take her under his wing. But after what happened to his father six years ago, Shiguma feels unworthy of taking on another disciple. Shiguma urges Akane to test her resolve by performing in front of an audience to see if she has what it takes to enter the rakugo world.
