FIt was first announced late last year that Netflix had officially acquired the worldwide rights to bad bridgetLuckyChap Entertainment’s upcoming 19th century period drama from Kneecap director Rich Peppiatt and Margot Robbie.
Here at What’s on Netflix, we actually learned about this acquisition earlier this year. We contacted Netflix in January about the pickup, but they declined to comment at the time. We agreed to keep it under our hats and wait until we were ready for a full announcement — and now, the cat is officially out of the bag, via Variety.
Initially announced during the AFM market in October 2025, the film will be written and directed by Rich Peppiattwho recently made a big splash with the critically acclaimed Irish comedy knees.
bad bridget Boasts an incredibly strong lineup of manufacturers. Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara are producing for LuckyChap Entertainment (Barbie, Saltburn), with Trevor Birney, Patrick O’Neill and Carroll Murphy producing for Fine Point Films (Kneecap). Milan Popelka is also producing. The project is a co-production between Fine Point Films, Coup d’Etat Films, FilmNation Entertainment and LuckyChap.

What is the story of Bad Bridgets?
The film is inspired by Ellen Farrell and Leanne McCormick’s fascinating historical book Bad Bridget: Crime, Mayhem, and the Lives of Irish Immigrant Women. The script was developed in collaboration with Queen’s University, Belfast.
Here’s the official logline for the upcoming feature:
“Set in famine-ravaged Ireland in the 19th century, the story focuses on two sisters who make the treacherous journey to America to escape an abusive father, poverty and hunger. Once in New York, they join a group of Irish so-called “Bridgets” who wreak havoc in the city.”
who is in the cast of bad bridget?
emilia jones (code, lock and key) will lead the film. When the film was originally announced late last year, Daisy Edgar-Jones (twisters, normal people) was attached to co-star in the role.
Stepping into the co-lead role Alison OliverKnown for her outstanding performance in saltburn And chat with friends. She will play Jones’ character’s sister as they make their harrowing journey from Ireland to New York.
Who else is behind the project?
Behind the camera, Peppiatt has assembled an award-winning crew to bring 19th century New York and Ireland to life.
Oscar-winning production designer james price (bad things) to handle the set while on board kate holly (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerof netflix frankenstein) will work as costume designer. Ryan Kernaghan (knees) will serve as director of photography.
Line producers are also associated with the production alex boyd and production coordinator Kelly McRedmond.
What is the production status of bad bridget?
Pre-production is currently in its final stages. Filming is about to officially begin 29 June 2026.
Cameras will be operational in Belfast, Northern Ireland and throughout the Republic of Ireland.
Given the production schedule for summer 2026, we would expect bad bridget Will land on Netflix sometime in mid-to-late 2027.
