Ransom Valley is officially back on our screens, but the neo-Western romance has hit quite a bumpy road in its second year. Following the solid breakout of the first season in early 2025, the highly anticipated second season has debuted on Netflix’s top 10 charts to a noticeably softer reception. Despite a passionate fan base in English-speaking territories, early numbers show a massive 43% drop in global views compared to its initial launch, making the massive drama the latest victim of a growing and highly scrutinized trend for the return of Netflix Originals.
The Season 2 decline shouldn’t be entirely surprising, as almost every show over the past few years has seen declines of some description, though the severity varies from show to show and often gives a good indication of whether or not it will be renewed. phubar Season 2 is a prime example with a season-to-season drop of over 76%, meaning it was immediately cancelled.
Of course, this all came into the spotlight recently via Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw, who pointed out that Netflix doesn’t have a good answer to the problem, but the company has since become more defensive, claiming that this is something that happens throughout the industry and that declines in recent years have improved. As a reminder on Season 1’s performance: it spent 4 weeks in the global top 10, achieving 183.6M viewing hours, which is equivalent to 23.3M views.

An additional warning before we dive in: Ransom Valley Season 2 notably reduced its number of episodes from 10 to 8, shortening the runtime. Therefore, it becomes easier to get views because of how views are calculated.

Looking at the graph above, the 43% drop in views puts it in potentially difficult waters for the new recruit Season 2 is a similar comparison. We will have to wait to see how things develop. Comparing the first four days of Season 2 to Season 1, the lack of points is obvious. On day one, the sophomore season only received 222 Flixpatrol points globally, compared to a much stronger 358 points for Season 1. This difference has not decreased as the weekend progressed. By the fourth day, Season 2 was at 413 points – well behind the 566 points Season 1 was at at the exact same point in its lifecycle. While a slight drop between seasons is completely normal for most Netflix Originals, a 25 to 30% drop in daily global access points is certainly a softer launch than executives were expecting.
So, where is the show actually working? Not surprisingly, the series is still going like gangbusters in the Anglosphere. Ransom Valley It managed to reach the #1 position in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Canada over the weekend, although it has since slipped to #2 in the US and Canada. It’s also getting a very strong, loyal audience in Northern Europe and the Nordics. Denmark’s audience has kept it at #1 for three consecutive days, while countries like Norway, Sweden, Finland and Estonia remain firmly in the #2 spot. If you look solely at the English-speaking and Northern European regions, the show looks like a real smash.

However, you don’t have to look carefully at a global heat map to see where Ransom Valley Bleeding point. The series is struggling to make a big impact in Latin America. In countries such as Chile, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Venezuela, it took several days for the show to reach the top 10, and it currently ranks in the bottom half of those lists. Furthermore, the show is almost non-existent in major Asian markets, dragging down its global average heavily.
