Following its rushed renewal at the Netflix upfronts earlier this month, we’ve got some new information about Dan Levy’s hit comedy series. big mistakes will be back in production for its highly anticipated second season, and thankfully, they’re wasting no time…
As a quick recap, the big mistakes come from Dan Levy, known for his stretch on schitt’s creek. The comedy-thriller follows Nicky (Levi) and her sister Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two deeply disabled siblings who find themselves in over their heads. Accidentally drawn into the criminal underworld after a botched burglary meant for their dying grandmother, the two are blackmailed into increasingly dangerous tasks, after clumsily failing to navigate the chaos they are completely unprepared to handle.
After debuting on Netflix in mid-April 2026, it entered the Global Top 10 English TV list for two weeks before immediately dropping out. Ultimately, it received 31.6M viewing hours, which is equivalent to 7.1M views. While not a megahit by any means, Netflix wasted no time in greenlighting the show for a second outing, with the renewal officially announced during the 2026 Netflix Upfronts presentation along with a few other renewals.
Now, we know exactly when the cameras are set to start rolling.

According to the new production list, Big Mistakes Season 2 filming is currently scheduled to take place between August 2026 and November 2026. As always, filming dates are subject to change and given that we haven’t received exact dates yet, it suggests things may change but we’ll keep you informed.
Like the first season, production will once again set up shop in the Garden State, with Jersey City, New Jersey listed as the primary hub for the upcoming shoot.
Season 1 was famously a huge effort New Jersey’s local film scene. The initial 46-day shoot employed over 300 cast and crew members, utilized over 500 local vendors, and filmed at 40+ locations including Millburn’s Wyoming Presbyterian Church and Edison Millwork & Hardware. It was also a remarkably sustainable production, using cleantech, electric vehicles and renewable diesel to drastically cut carbon emissions. Given the show’s deep ties to the state — with New Jersey essentially serving as the backdrop for the high-stakes comedy saga — it’s great to see production moving right along.

So, who’s behind the camera for Season 2?
Of course, Dan Levy is back as writer and executive producer Rachel Sennott (Below, body body body) are also listed as writers and producers for the second season.
Other prominent producers listed for the sophomore outing include Anne-Marie McGinty, Dean Holland, Etan Frankel and Timothy Greenberg. Meredith Mills will serve as line producer alongside production manager Ulysses Rodriguez. Brendan Lynch and Neil Daly are on board as first assistant directors, with Gail Keller returning to handle casting.
Although it’s a little early for Netflix to reveal an exact release date for Season 2, wrapping up shooting in November 2026 means we’ll likely see Nicky, Morgan, and Laurie Metcalf’s hardware-store-running matriarch back on our screens in mid-to-late 2027.
