Kaiju fans, rejoice! Although physical media collectors may not have gotten the 4K box set they’ve been clamoring for this year, Netflix is stepping in to save the day. The entire ’90s Rebirth of Mothra trilogy is officially making its way to Netflix globally this July as the franchise celebrates its inaugural season.mothra years“.

‘Rebirth of Mothra’ trilogy arrives on Netflix
If you’ve been trying to keep track of the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy (Rebirth of Mothra, Rebirth of Mothra II, and Rebirth of Mothra III), you already know the struggle. The old Sony Blu-ray set has been completely out of print for years, leading to fans campaigning heavily for a modern 4K box set.
While Toho won’t bless us with a fully remastered physical collection of ’90s movies until early 2026, Netflix has successfully acquired the streaming rights. It gives fans a much-needed, highly accessible way to marathon the Heisei-era spin-off films starting next month.
If you’re wondering why these films are such a big thing, they represent a fascinating, fantasy-driven departure from the standard kaiju. As Paul Ley noted in a recent excellent retrospective for bloody disgustingThis trilogy is an often “overlooked part of the ’90s ‘Godzilla’ era”. Taking advantage of the character’s widespread popularity after 1992’s Godzilla vs. Mothra, Toho allowed the Rebirth films to adopt magical and ecological themes that were completely separate from Godzilla’s timeline.
Packed with incredible practical effects, miniatures, and wild villains like Desghidorah and the Cretaceous King Ghidorah, this trilogy is a “feast of the absurd” for fans of the genre.
The movies are actually surprisingly easy to find on VOD and streaming, but this will be the first time they’ve been added to Netflix. Netflix has been involved with the Godzilla franchise in a number of interesting ways over the years, most notably distributing the recent animated films And also carrying the SVOD rights godzilla minus one (including a special black and white version).
What’s actually coming to Netflix? Let’s analyze the releases confirmed so far, each of which is expected to release on July 1st. At the moment we can only confirm the US release:

2026 is officially Toho’s “Year of Mothra.”
Netflix’s timing couldn’t be better. If you’ve been following news out of Japan, you’ll know this Toho officially announced 2026 As in “The Mothra Years”.
It’s a big double anniversary for the Queen of the Monsters: it marks exactly 65 years since her cinematic debut in the original 1961 Mothra, and 30 years since the launch of the 1996 Rebirth of Mothra trilogy.
So far, the official “Year of Mothra” celebration has focused heavily on activities outside of streaming, including a new merchandise line at the Godzilla Store, filled with exclusive apparel, plush, and rare collectibles. This is in addition to a dedicated “Mothra Special Exhibition” Running till September 2026 At the Godzilla Museum inside the Nijigen no Mori theme park in Japan. This exhibit features incredible, rare screen-used props from the ’90s trilogy, including larva form and Mothra Leo paraphernalia.
