Welcome to your weekend recap of everything new on Netflix US! This week, we passed the midpoint of July, and we got the usual mid-month batch of big movies and some new Netflix originals. Over the past seven days, there have been a total of 45 new releases (24 movies and 21 series) on the streaming service.
Whether you want to watch one of the biggest blockbuster sci-fi franchises of the 21st century, dive behind the scenes of the NFL, or watch some fun retro versions of your favorite Netflix Originals, this week’s lineup is perfect. May the odds always be in your favor this weekend! Netflix just granted the entire license hunger games Cinematic universe. Whether you want to start from the beginning with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in the 2012 original, or you want to check out the more recent 2023 prequel songbirds and snakes song This is arguably the best timing, considering that the new entry, The Hunger Games: Sunrise at the Reaping, is coming to theaters a little later this year, with Francis Lawrence directing and Joseph Zada leading the cast alongside upcoming Scooby Doo star, Mckenna Grace.

Directed by Oliver Stone, Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays notorious NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in this gripping biographical thriller. The film chronicles his journey from a conservative, patriotic military recruit to a disillusioned intelligence contractor who ultimately leaks thousands of classified documents to the press, exposing massive global surveillance programs. Featuring a strong supporting cast that includes Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, and Nicolas Cage, it is a tense, thought-provoking deep dive into one of the most polarizing figures in modern American history.

Football season is approaching, and Netflix is here to get us excited with the highly anticipated third season of its hit NFL docuseries. Following a new roster of elite signal-callers, this entertaining, all-access series takes fans inside the crowd, the locker room and the personal lives of the men who play in the toughest positions in the game. With phenomenal mic-up audio and behind-the-scenes drama, it’s a must-see for any football fan. This season includes Jaden Daniels, Baker Mayfield, Cam Ward and Joe Flacco.
Stranger Things: VHS Special Edition (season 1)
Type: TV series
Style: science fiction, horror
In case you missed it, Stranger Things season 1 celebrated its remarkable 10th anniversary this week. While we didn’t get much news that may have disappointed some fans, we did get this surprising drop. This fun, experimental re-release of the iconic first season has been visually and aurally remixed to mimic the viewing experience on a classic, slightly worn VHS tape. It’s a great excuse to revisit the magic of Hawkins, Indiana, from the beginning.

In the list of movies, we have a brand new champion taking the crown. netflix original thriller Shipwreck: Nightmare at Sea Surpassing the competition to reach #1 with an impressive 80 points. However, children’s programming remains incredibly flexible in the middle of the summer holidays The Boss Baby Shooting up to #2 (55 points).
Last week’s highlights show great staying power with indie western old henry Maintaining a top five position at #5 (45 points). We’re also seeing the early impact of this week’s massive franchise decline: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Has already managed to crack the top 10 with #8 (26 points).
