Welcome to another roundup of Netflix Originals set to leave the service. As you probably know by now, Netflix has been losing a steady stream of “original” content over the past few years. Why? Usually, it comes down to licensing. Whether it’s internationally acquired series, where Netflix only purchased exclusive rights for a few years, or stand-up specials with specific, short-term lease agreements, Red “N” is not an absolute guarantee of permanent residency.

If you’re looking for something to add to your watchlist before time runs out, here’s everything you need to know about the April and May departures.

As a reminder, you can check out all the Netflix Originals that were removed here (though it’s in desperate need of an update now – it’s on my list!).

Please note: All removals from Netflix are subject to change due to licensing agreements. Netflix may extend the license or remove a title before it is listed. Removal dates may also vary by region.

Netflix Original Departing in April 2026

magical andes (documentary series)

removed from netflix: 1 April

First added to Netflix: 15 October 2019

If you’re a fan of breathtaking cinematography and relaxing travelogues, this series is perfect for watching in the background. Stretching from Argentina to Colombia, it takes viewers on a visual journey through the majestic mountains of South America. Rather than focusing solely on geography, the documentary closely follows five distinct characters, each of whom shares a deep, unique and deeply personal connection to the Andes and the cultures that flourish in their shadow.

Demetri Martin: Demetri Deconstructed (Stand-up Special)

removed from netflix: 2 April

First added to Netflix: April 2, 2024

Netflix has begun licensing many modern stand-up hours for very short terms. Like many other comics, what we call small to medium level comics, Martin had signed a lease of exactly two years.

sirius the jaeger (anime series)

Why is it likely to go away?: Like a large portion of Netflix’s anime library, this title was on a strict, long-term international distribution lease (about seven and a half years) that is finally expiring.

About the series: Produced by PA Works, this action-packed historical anime is set in the 1930s during the height of Imperial Tokyo. It focuses on a bloody, supernatural shadow war between vampires and a diverse group of secretly government-funded vampire hunters known as “Jaegers”. At the center of the story is Yuli, a young werewolf whose village was destroyed by vampires, as two factions race to find a mysterious and doomed sacred relic called the Ark of Sirius.

Ruthless (Movies)

leaving netflix: 19 April

First added to Netflix: 19 April 2019

Why is it likely to go away?: This Italian crime drama was picked up by the streaming giant for an exacting seven-year global streaming contract.

Directed by Renato De Maria and starring Riccardo Scamarcio, The Ruthless (Lo Spiatato) is a slick, fast-paced mobster epic. It follows the rise and fall of Santo Russo, tracing his journey from a rebellious teenager from a poor, marginalized family to becoming one of Milan’s most ambitious, high-rolling and feared criminal bosses. Set against the glitzy, neon-colored backdrop of the 1980s ‘Ndrangheta Mafia, it’s a solid choice for fans of Goodfellas-esque crime sagas.

Fern Brady: Autistic Bikini Queen (Stand-up Special)

leaving netflix: 22 April

First added to Netflix: April 22, 2024

Like Demetri Martin’s above special, Scottish comedian Fern Brady’s acclaimed stand-up hour was licensed on a strict, exacting two-year deal. Filmed in Bristol, the brilliant Scottish comedian delivers a famously blunt, completely unfiltered, and extremely hilarious comedy. Brady tackles a wide range of personal and social topics, including an autism diagnosis at the end of her life, the fear of aging, the realities of death, and the awkwardness of modern relationships. His sharp wit makes this a special one that comedy fans should not miss.

Netflix often snatches up international streaming rights to big-budget Chinese films for a predetermined period. The film’s exact five-year exclusivity period is coming to an end. This high-concept Chinese fantasy thriller tells the story of Song Yu, a desperately struggling, sleep-deprived screenwriter who suddenly realizes he has an extremely fascinating superpower: he can physically pull valuable antiques and treasures out of his vivid nightmares and bring them into the real world. What starts off as a fun, wish-fulfilling journey from poverty to immense wealth soon turns bleak as real-world gangsters and supernatural dream-world consequences catch up with him.

It’s Bruno! (series)

Produced by Warner Bros. Television’s digital studio, Stage 13, Netflix picked it up right under its seven-year exclusive streaming window. Since it unfortunately never got a second season, Netflix clearly has little incentive to renegotiate a renewal.

This Emmy-nominated comedy was created by and stars Solvan “Slick” Graham. It focuses on Malcolm, a devoted dog dad living in Bushwick, Brooklyn, and his beloved, pampered dog, Bruno. The episodes are sizable (about 15 minutes each), following Malcolm as he becomes involved in escalating, absurd neighborhood beefs over dog park etiquette, hipster gentrification, and sidewalk respect. It’s an instant, incredibly tempting binge.

Rachel Feinstein: Big Guy (Stand-Up Special)

leaving netflix: 21 May

First added to Netflix: 21 May 2024

Another short-lived comedy contract ended. New York comedian Rachel Feinstein doesn’t hold back from anything. She covers everything from her firefighter husband’s unique shocking habits and the strange realities of marriage to overbearing mothers and the daily absurdities of aging.

Not to be confused with the beloved anime, this live-action Japanese adaptation of the hit manga is reaching the end of an eight-year international distribution deal.

Based on the hit manga by One (creators of One Punch Man), this quirky live-action adaptation focuses on Shigeo Kageyama—aka “Mob”—an incredibly awkward eighth grade student who suppresses his emotions to keep from exploding his god-like psychic abilities. Working for a deceitful boss who runs an exorcism business, Mob finds himself forced to repeatedly escape an evil esper organization while desperately trying to be a normal kid and impress his middle-school crush.

black space (series)

leaving netflix: 27 May

First added to Netflix: 27 May 2021

Why is it likely to go away?: Like many international series, Netflix acquired the global streaming rights to this Israeli thriller for a five-year period, and that contract is now officially expiring.

About the series: This gripping, dark psychological thriller begins with a terrifying and harrowing premise: a devastating shootout at a local high school perpetrated by mysterious figures wearing unicorn masks. Plunging into the case as a rogue, highly unconventional police investigator, he discovers a tangled web of lies, bullying, and secrets among the surviving students, all connected by a hidden, encrypted social media app called “Black Space.”
