Along with the release of the first official trailer and teaser art, Netflix shared the following tagline for the new series:

Netflix has provided a brand new official logline for the series:
“Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival story, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of the people who shaped the frontier.”
While much of the upcoming season has been kept under wraps, in statements provided by Netflix, showrunner Rebecca Sonenshine provided a window into where Ingalls’ story will begin.
“The first season is inspired by Little House on the Prairie, which is actually the third book in the series,” She says. “The characters talk about their lives before they hit the ground running – we get to meet some of the characters from their past.”

The first season follows the Ingalls family’s move from their Wisconsin farm to a log house in Montgomery County, Kansas in 1869. Their new home was built in Native American territory, but Laura’s father had heard that the government planned to open the area to white settlers and thus he took the risk of settling his family.
The family faced risks and dangers during their two-year stay in Kansas, including falling ill, starting a new farm, and land disputes with Native Americans and the U.S. government.
We can reveal that episode 1 of the series will be titled Independence.

In statements provided by Netflix, Sonenshine detailed the tone of the upcoming adaptation:
“This show is a love story about a family. It’s a family you want to be with, you want to know, you want to spend time with. That’s really at the core of Little House on the Prairie: a family that is there for each other, that tells stories to each other, tells stories about themselves.”
Like generations of readers and viewers before him, Sonenshine found himself lost in the world of the Ingalls family at an early age.
“I fell in love with these books since I was 5 years old. They inspired me to become a writer and filmmaker, and I’m honored and thrilled to adapt these stories for new audiences.”

Before the release of the first season, little house on the prairie Has already been renewed for a second season. It’s not very often that Netflix will renew a series early, which shows the streamer’s extreme confidence in the show.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonenshine shared the following about the initial renewal:
“I’m incredibly grateful to our amazing cast and crew who poured their hearts and hard work into bringing our first season to life. We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.”
Netflix’s head of US and Canada scripted series, Jeannie Howe, also shared her excitement:
“We are delighted to renew this beautiful reimagining of Little House on the Prairie for a second season ahead of its Netflix debut. The extraordinary work of Rebecca Sonnenschein and the entire cast and crew on Season 1 has established a rich foundation of storytelling for years to come. With its optimistic spirit and emotional authenticity, we are confident that Little House will deliver even more of what fans really love.”
Filming for season 2 is scheduled to begin on June 12 in Winnipeg and run until October 30, with a return date of 2027.

- Alyssa Wapnathak (peter pan and wendy) plays White Sun, a sharp-tongued and commanding presence with strong opinions and a more cynical outlook than Mitchell. (series regular)
