Blumhouse’s massive horror sequel five nights at freddys 2 Netflix is officially entering the US this summer. As part of Universal’s standard pay-1 window agreement, Animatronic Terror will be available to stream beginning August 3, 2026.
Hitting theaters late last year on December 5, 2025, the highly anticipated follow-up to Scott Cawthon’s video game adaptation proved that Freddy Fazbear is still a big draw.
Once again directed by Emma Tammy, the sequel picks up one year after the supernatural nightmare of the first film. The sinister legends about an abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza have somehow been turned into a campy local legend, inspiring the town to hold its first “FazFest.” Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) are desperately trying to hide the dark truth from Mike’s younger sister, Abby (Piper Rubio). But when Abby sneaks out to reunite with her animatronic friends—Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy—she accidentally sets off a terrifying chain of events.
The sequel significantly expands this lore, uncovering deeper mysteries about Freddy’s true origins and uncovering long-forgotten horrors. Along with the returning trio, Matthew Lillard is back as the great William Afton. McKenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Afterlife and coming soon to netflix Scooby Doo series), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park), and horror icon Skeet Ulrich (scream).
A smash at the box office, but what did the critics think?
Like its 2023 predecessor, five nights at freddys 2 Basically it proved to be critic-proof. Critics were generally lukewarm on the sequel, the main complaint being that the follow-up to Tammy was so enmeshed in Cawthon’s dense, esoteric video game lore that it could not attract casual moviegoers. However, as mentioned, this did not affect the sequel’s dedicated fans.
Financially, Blumhouse and Universal struck gold again. The film grossed a massive $63 million in its first weekend after Thanksgiving, ultimately grossing an impressive $239.6 million at the global box office. Given that the film was made on a relatively modest budget (estimated to be between $36 million and $51 million), it was an undeniable commercial success.
Now, a sequel is getting ready to terrorize a whole new audience on Netflix.
