Netflix has just announced that it has officially turned on the cameras nine queens (local name new renas), an all-new series adaptation of the critically acclaimed and beloved Argentine heist film of the same name. The creative vision for the series is led by the creators and writers jose morris And Victor SierraJoe also serves as executive producer alongside Luis Ferron, Gonzalo Salazar-Simpson, Guido Rudd and Juan Pablo Galli. Behind the camera, Alex Rodrigo and Jorge Saavedra share directing responsibilities. The show’s visual style is brought to life by cinematographers Andreu Adam and Victor Benavides, with Juan Pedro de Gaspar handling the complex production design.
Based on the iconic Argentinian film originally written and directed by Fabián Bielinski, this new Spanish adaptation shifts the action to Europe during a very specific, turbulent time.

“Set in Madrid in 2012, in the midst of an economic crisis, Marcos, a ruthless veteran scammer, crosses paths with Juan, a ruined young man who can barely support his family. What begins as a 24-hour alliance to overcome petty opposition becomes the robbery of their lives: selling the legendary counterfeit stamps, the ‘Nine Queens’, as authentic ones to a relentless magnate. The series follows these two turns con artists into a reflection of a country where the line between victims and scammers is increasingly blurred.”
Who is starring in the series?
The cast is completely filled with familiar faces for anyone who’s closely watched Netflix’s Spanish original.

- patrick criado (money heist, below zero) stars opposite Morte as the desperate, young thug, Juan.
- jose coronado (wrong side of the tracks, The Snow Girl) will play the role of a ruthless magnate who is being targeted for a massive stamp scam.
- aura garrido (Innocent) joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

As of April 27, 2026, Netflix has confirmed that filming is officially underway in Madrid. Given the standard production and post-production timelines for a premium European series, we likely won’t see it hit our screens until late 2026 or sometime in 2027.
