sakamoto day has cemented itself as one of the most explosive anime titles on Netflix, and the wait for its next chapter is (almost) finally over!

During Netflix’s recent panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, director of anime content Yuji Yamano spoke at length about the show’s tremendous success. He highlighted that the series – which perfectly blends mundane daily life with heavy-hitting action – crossed boundaries and became a “global social phenomenon” soon after its release. It continued to dominate the charts, spending 10 consecutive weeks in Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10.

While lucky Annecy attendees were treated to an exclusive, restricted sneak peek behind closed doors at the time, Yamano teased that Season 2 will bring back our beloved familiar faces with a new roster of charming characters. Most importantly, he promised fans that the upcoming episodes would deliver “significantly evolved quality and stepped-up action.”

Now, the rest of the world knows exactly what he meant.

Netflix has released the first teaser for the highly anticipated second season of Sakamoto Days, and it looks like our favorite retired hitman is going back to school. Brief but action-packed footage shows the crew searching for “Slur” – a notorious assassin who targets other assassins – which forces them to infiltrate the prestigious JCC assassin training academy for intel. In typical Sakamoto Days fashion, the mission promises plenty of absurd hijinks, highlighted by Taro taking on a shocking disguise as a beautiful female student teacher. Filled with flashes of lightning battles, dangerous new enemies bound by JAA rules, and whispers of an impending “killer revolution,” the teaser perfectly sets the stage for even more high-octane chaos when the hit anime returns exclusively to the streamer in January 2027.

This new footage proves that the wait will definitely be worth it. As we’ve covered before, the first season of Sakamoto Days generated millions of views, making it easily one of the most successful and most-watched anime titles on the platform. With a new goal, a new school, and some serious visual upgrades, Taro Sakamoto’s next mission is shaping up to be his boldest yet.
