Netflix’s highly anticipated historical drama Kennedy is officially home. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the upcoming Reputation series starring Michael Fassbender, and as production nears completion, we’ve got a new batch of behind-the-scenes photos capturing an emotional final day on set.
Filming of the huge JFK series recently concluded on a picturesque beach in southeast England. Filmed on what was the hottest day of the year so far in the UK, the cast and crew braved a heatwave to film what is considered one of the final and most poignant scenes of the production.
We see in new pictures Laura Donnelly (The Nevers, outlander), who plays Kennedy family matriarch Rose Kennedy, is filming with joshua melnick. We previously shared the first look at Melnick playing a young Jack Kennedy, and these new photos mark a major milestone: According to sources on set, this beach sequence marks Melnick’s final day of filming. The pictures show the young actor with tears in his eyes and a warm emotional embrace with the crew. The series has been filming in the UK since the beginning of the year under the working title/code name Victura.

Behind-the-scenes photos also give us a great look at the show’s meticulous period costumes. Donnelly is seen wearing a classic burgundy mid-length skirt and a sharply tailored tweed jacket with red velvet trim. Meanwhile, Melnick’s young Jack is seen relying heavily on wooden crutches – a historically accurate allusion to the future president’s well-documented, lifelong health problems and back struggles.
It’s the latest example of the large-scale production’s incredible attention to historical detail, which we’ve also seen recently in behind-the-scenes glimpses of Michael Fassbender’s filming and in our recent first glimpse of Sarah Lightfoot-Lyon and Louis Landau as Kick Kennedy and Billy Cavendish.
Eagle-eyed fans looking closely at the crew shots in this new batch of photos will also spot a clapperboard confirming the acclaimed Emmy-winning director. jessica hobbs (who directed several standout episodes of The Crown) is directing these key scenes with cinematographer falcon irwin. Every now and then, you can also see the cast and crew using small hand fans and ice packs to stay cool in the sun.
Based on Fredrik Logevall’s acclaimed biography JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, the series sets out to fill the huge historical void left by the conclusion of The Crown by charting the formative years of America’s future president.
With production wrapping up soon, Kennedy is expected to premiere on Netflix next year.
