Following an initial teaser at Netflix’s recent animation showcase in France, Netflix, CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger have officially released an explosive new teaser trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. And yes, it’s every bit as bloody, dynamic and neon-filled as you’d expect.

During the anime and adult animation presentation in Annecy, Netflix executive Jermaine Turner highlighted the broader impact of the original 2022 series. He said that when the first season dropped, “something unusual happened. The video game had been released. I dare say, it had a bit of a troublesome launch, and suddenly it became a cultural phenomenon again, all because of the anime.” After proudly mentioning that the first season “won Anime of the Year at the Cultural Anime Awards in 2023,” Turner set high expectations for the sequel, saying, “Now with Edgerunners 2, we hope to once again see the cyberpunk franchise become a global cultural phenomenon.”

This highly anticipated follow-up is officially set to tear out our hearts again when it hits Netflix globally in the fall of 2026. Audiences got to see a teaser, which has now been released by CD Projekt Red after dropping the property all week.

Here’s what the brutal new teaser reveals, who the new crew of mercenaries is, and what you can expect from the next chapter in the cyberpunk universe.

A fresh, bloody story

The new tagline says it all: “New Legends. Same Night City.”

One thing becomes immediately clear from the teaser: Night City isn’t much friendlier than it used to be. Inspired by Rico Nasty’s track “You Can’t Run From Me”, the footage is a hyper-violent montage of rapid-fire gunfire, glitchy cyberware, and of course, explosions.

As previously confirmed, Edgerunners 2 is not a direct continuation of David Martinez’s tragic arc. Instead, it is an all-new, standalone 10-episode story described as “a raw tale of redemption and revenge.” The overarching theme of the new season asks a heavy question: When the world is blinded by spectacle, to what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?

As Turner mentioned during the showcase, Studio Trigger has built its reputation on prioritizing emotional intensity above all else, ensuring that the personal stakes in Night City will always matter more than the action.

meet the new team

Because David’s original crew was almost completely flattened by the end of Season 1, this teaser gives us our first animated look at an entirely fresh squad of edgerunners trying to survive in the corporate meat grinder.

New heroes stepping into the crosshairs include:

  • Roman Carax: A young boy and avid cinephile, who acts as “witness to every legend”, was prominently seen holding an old-school videocamcorder amidst the chaos.
  • Talia Yang: A fierce fighter with cute pink hair and a tactical face mask was seen causing some serious damage and repairing mechanical cyberware.
  • D: A pensive, navy-haired Netrunner with a harsh red scar on his face and glowing green cyber-optics.
  • Weak “King” Kingsley: A large, burly veteran Edgerunner, wearing black shades and wielding a massive, custom-painted heavy cannon, appears to act as the overwhelming force of the group.

team behind the screen

One of the core tenets of anime is that the creators matter just as much as the IP, and Netflix is fully supporting the visionary talent returning for Season 2.

The vibrant, irregular art style you loved in the first season is back in full force, but with a slight change in leadership. While Hiroyuki Imaishi helmed the first iteration, franchise veteran Kai Ikarashi (Little Witch Academia, SSSS.Gridman) is stepping up to direct this 10-episode installment.

He is joined by an absolute powerhouse team, including veterans like lead character designer Ichigo Kanno (Dungeon Delicious) and collaborator Masahiko Otsuka. Hugo Award-winning writer Bartosz Sztybor steps in as showrunner, while the original score is being handled by renowned composer Tsuneo Imahori.
