It’s time to take a look at the last seven days on Netflix. While the return of some heavy-hitting Emmy winners may be dominating the headlines, it’s actually a big week for sports fans, documentary buffs, and those looking for some high-octane library additions. In total, Netflix US added 49 new releases this week, split down the middle with 16 movies and 23 TV series.
Keep it locked here on What’s on Netflix for more details on what’s coming for the remainder of April 2026, and we’re also keeping an eye on additional things happening in May 2026 right here.
Here are the highlights of what’s new and trending for the week ending April 17, 2026, and though we won’t include them below, Netflix has also added two new shark thrillers if you fancy spanking since last week.
The best new additions to Netflix this week
beef (season 2)
Style: comedy drama
Order:8 episodes
The wait is finally over. After making a splash on the awards circuit with its debut, Lee Sung Jin’s anthology series has returned with a new controversy. This time, sparks ignite in the high-risk world of a private country club, involving a young couple and their billionaire boss. Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan lead a stellar cast that proves lightning can indeed strike twice. If you can’t get enough, Netflix has also released another companion podcast to Day by Day on Netflix titled BEEF: The Official Podcast that will help you dive deeper into the chaos.
The only downside we can see right now is that the series is struggling to remain in the top 10 of Netflix for a few days. Season 3 may not be possible, although Netflix has signed a deal with the creator, so he’ll at least be involved with a new project.
history channel collection

If you’re looking to brush up on your historical knowledge this weekend, Netflix has given us a huge treat by bringing a brand new collection of History Channel documentaries to the platform. Whether you want to explore the grim underworld of organized crime in American Godfathers: The Five Families, or relive the pioneering spirit that shaped a nation in The Men Who Built America: Frontiersman and America: Our Defining Hours, there’s plenty of factual material to be found.
The massive fall also includes fascinating deep dives like Sitting Bull (produced by Leonardo DiCaprio) and The Booze, Bets and Sex That Built America, giving documentary fans a whole trove of entertaining, real-life dramas to add to their watchlist.
Denial (2016)
director:Mick Jackson
Author: Deborah Lipstadt, David Hare
mold: Rachel Weisz, Tom Wilkinson, Timothy Spall
Finally, and in keeping with the theme of interesting historical events, this week’s movie lineup brings us the groundbreaking 2016 legal drama Denial. Starring Rachel Weisz, Timothy Spall and Andrew Scott, the film chronicles the astonishing real-life legal battle of American historian Deborah E. Lipstadt, who is sued for defamation by a notorious Holocaust denier and is forced to prove in a British court that the Holocaust actually occurred. This is an incredibly tense, impeccably acted thriller that dovetails perfectly with this week’s influx of historical docs, serving as a powerful, must-watch reminder of why defending the truth matters.
