Welcome to your final weekly roundup of June 2026! As we prepare to enter July, Netflix is closing out the month by adding a very respectable 36 new releases (11 movies and 25 series) to its US library over the past seven days. The best new movies and shows on Netflix this week
24th (2020)
Type: Movies
Style: Drama, History Runtime: 1 hour 53 minutes
Co-written and directed by Kevin Willmott (who won an Oscar for co-writing). BlacKkKlansman), this powerful historical drama is a must-see. Starring Troy Byers (who also co-wrote), it tells the harrowing true story of the all-black 24th United States Infantry Regiment and the events leading up to the deadly Houston Riots of 1917. It is an entertaining, thought-provoking, and deeply emotional film that sheds light on an often overlooked chapter of American history.
Avatar The Last Airbender (season 2)
Type: TV series
Style: fantasy, action, adventure
The wait is finally over! Aang, Katara and Sokka are back for their second season with Netflix’s massive live-action adaptation of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series. This time, the gang is heading to the Earth Kingdom to find Earthbending master Aang, which means we finally get to meet fan-favorite character Toph. The series has undoubtedly raised the stakes this season, but whether it pays off in viewership, we’ll find out next week.

Style: Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller

If you’re looking for a sprawling, steamy action-thriller, Netflix has licensed all five seasons of this explosive TNT drama. Created by Michael Bay and starring the late, great Eric Dane, the series follows the crew of a lone U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer who, after a global viral pandemic wipes out most of the Earth’s population, must find a cure and literally save humanity. This is high-stakes, popcorn-munching summer television at its best.
