What happens when you have to wait two years for a series to return? Your viewership really struggles. Debuting at #2 on the weekly global chart, Avatar The Last Airbender Season 2’s viewership is down 58% with only 8.7 million views out of its 64.6 million hours. that mirror of beef There is a problem in the number of viewers since the beginning of this year. However, there is a silver lining.

The caveat to all this reporting on numbers: They don’t matter that much. The series has already been renewed for Season 3, production has completed, and is expected to return to our screens by the end of the year or early 2027.

Now the silver lining with these first week figures is that Season 1 has moved from the top 10 to the #3 spot with an additional 3M views and 27.1M viewing hours. This tells us that a large portion of the audience was left behind or had forgotten and are moving on quickly. This is also in addition to any newcomers.

As a reminder, Season 1 of the show remained in the top 10 for 6 weeks, garnering 442.6 million watch hours and 61.2 million complete views.

Flixpatrol numbers paint a grim picture

Warning signs of a soft launch have been present in the daily top 10 tracked by Flixpatrol since Friday, with the show unable to topple Harlan Coben. i will find you In its first five days.

Season 2 achieved a strong #2 position in most major Western territories, including the United States, Germany, France and the Netherlands, while it had its strongest viewership in emerging markets such as Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Jamaica, where it comfortably held the #1 position for several days. It also saw a brief surge to the top of the charts in parts of South Asia, proving that the franchise’s global appeal is still intact out of the gate.

However, a closer look at the regional breakdown shows that the series is already losing some of its early momentum. The show has struggled to gain any meaningful traction in key East Asian markets, barely cracking the top 10 in South Korea and Taiwan, and performing significantly worse in parts of Latin America. More worryingly for its long-term legs is the noticeable decay in several key areas just days after release; For example, the UK saw a sharp drop from #2 to #5, while early #1 peaks in places like the Philippines and India have already cooled.

Keeping in mind that Netflix’s daily top 10s don’t reflect viewing intensity, here, in pure daily globally assigned points, is how Season 2 is faring against Season 1 right now:

Day season 1 issue season 2 issue
day 1 881 705
day 2 912 765
third day 911 735
day 4 903 737
day 5 898 734
day 6 897
day 7 887
day 8 895
day 9 886
day 10 884
day 11 858
day 12 835
day 13 809
day 14 766

Of course, at this stage, we should note that declining viewership for returning seasons is not a new phenomenon; In fact, that’s the name of the game at this point, with very few shows coming back that have actually managed to grow their viewership, which seems to be a problem pretty much across the industry, although HBO shows in particular are very good at growing season after season.

Why this is becoming such a big problem for Netflix and how they might solve it is unclear. Some have reported that the problem has been made worse by the Netflix UI changing so dramatically, giving titles less space on a user’s TV.

Then it’s time for production. This is another show that has taken a long time to return to our screens. Actually 854 days, which breaks down to 2 years, 4 months. Of course we reported the 20-month average last year.
