While we’re still enjoying everything 2026 has to offer, Netflix’s long-term production cycle means we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect next year. 2027 is going to be an absolutely huge one for the streaming giant — a year of monumental series finales, massive new adaptations, and the biggest cinematic rollout in Netflix history.

After years of development, Netflix’s mega-budget reboot of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy franchise is finally arriving. Directed and written by barbie’s Greta Gerwig is starting off the franchise chronologically with The Magician’s Nephew. Netflix is giving it an unprecedented global IMAX rollout in February before it arrives on the platform in April. This is easily Netflix’s most anticipated movie of the decade.

Netflix’s massive acquisition of the Dahl catalog is bearing some wildly creative fruit, and this upcoming animated feature may be the group’s most uninspired project. Produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Imageworks (the brilliant minds behind it) spider verse Films), the film serves as a modern-day sequel with a heist twist.
The story centers on Willy Wonka (voiced by Oscar winner Taika Waititi), who has just been released from prison after serving time for the whole “turning a baby into a blueberry” incident. Returning to his factory to bring sweetness back to modern London, he encounters a brand new hero: a teenager named Charlie Pelly (voiced by Heartstopper’s Kit Connor). Facing eviction, Charlie and his “rotten” crew of friends plot to break into the prestigious factory to steal a priceless Wonka Bar and save their homes.

Wednesday (Season 3)

Netflix has made a massive strategic change with some of its biggest hits, intentionally holding off the return of Jenna Ortega’s The Wednesday Show until 2027. After dominating the streaming charts for years past, this spaced-out release strategy ensures that Nevermore Academy’s favorite goth will have the spotlight entirely to herself next year.

Get off to Alabasta! Following the massive success of the live-action anime adaptation’s secondary outing, season 3 is scheduled for 2027. This season will cover the fan-favorite Arabesta Saga, promising an epic desert showdown between Monkey D. Luffy and the fearsome Crocodile.
Avatar: The Last Airbender (Season 3)

Different a pieceNetflix’s live-action Avatar was immediately renewed for two additional seasons, giving the creators a chance to properly finish Aang’s story. Season 3 will conclude the epic saga as Aang finally faces the Fire Lord.
Bridgerton (season 5)

Dear Gentle Reader, you didn’t think Ton would rest, did you? The fifth season of Bridgerton is expected to arrive in 2027, and showrunners have confirmed that it will focus on Francesca and Michaela’s long-awaited love story.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Season 3 – Final Season)

Fans of Holly Jackson’s gripping YA thriller novels can both rejoice and mourn. Netflix has confirmed that Emma Myers will return as Pip Fitz-Amoby for a four-episode final season adapting the third book, As Good as Dead. The cast secretly shot Season 3 back-to-back with Season 2, meaning its dark, painful conclusion is already in the box and locked away for next year.

Assassin’s Creed (Season 1)

Netflix has been quietly preparing an adaptation of Ubisoft’s flagship video game franchise for years. Although details have been kept under wraps, 2027 is currently looking like the year we’ll finally take a leap of faith into this live-action historical sci-fi universe. Scooby-doo: original (Season 1)

Jinkies! Netflix is teaming up with Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions for the first live-action Scooby-Doo television series — and it’s taking us back to where it all began.
Billed as a modern, live-action reimagining of the beloved Mystery Inc. gang, Scooby-Doo: Origins will follow the iconic teens during their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. Longtime friends Shaggy (Tanner Hagen) and Daphne (Mckenna Grace) become embroiled in a sinister mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder. Teamed up with practical townswoman Velma (Abby Ryder Fortson) and strikingly handsome new kid Freddy (Maxwell Jenkins), the gang must confront a terrifying nightmare that threatens to expose all of their darkest secrets.
With an eight-episode first season currently filming in Atlanta, an amazing young cast, and the novelty of using a real-life puppy for Scooby (instead of CGI), this original story is easily one of Netflix’s most talked-about new shows for 2027.

Netflix animation and anime coming in 2027
Blue Eye Samurai (Season 2)
Situation: in production
Our favorite Emmy-winning adult animated series is coming back! Season 2 of Blue Eye Samurai moves the bloody quest for vengeance out of Japan and into Edo-era London. Mizu must face new friends, old enemies, and demons of her own, while Akemi and Taigen take a dangerous new shogun back home. While an exact date isn’t set, Netflix recently showcased the new season at the Annecy Animation Festival, hinting at a 2027 release.
Ghostbusters: Night Shift
Situation: Confirmed for 2027

Announced at the latest Annecy festival, this official, canon entry into the Ghostbusters universe takes us back to the 1990s. Using a uniquely expressive animated style, the series follows a dysfunctional group of barely trained heroes using makeshift technology to deal with a brand new paranormal fear.

Netflix is officially doubling down on the Grand Line! While we eagerly await the return of the live-action series, Netflix is giving Straw Hat fans another big treat with The One Piece – a brand-new, top-to-bottom anime remake of Eiichiro Oda’s famous manga.
The highly anticipated series, scheduled to release in February 2027, is being produced by the powerhouse animation team at WIT Studios. Starting from the beginning with the East Blue Saga, this remake promises to be a fresh, modern take on Luffy’s early adventures with state-of-the-art animation and a significantly streamlined pacing (meaning much less filler than the original 1999 broadcast). Whether you’re a longtime fan who wants to experience the magic again or a newcomer who feels too intimidated by the original anime’s 1,100+ episode count, this February release is set to be a monumental television event.
