Alice Osman on the Move to a Film, Long-Distance Hurdles, and Volume 6
With the film officially bridging the gap from adolescence to adulthood, Alice Osman took some time to discuss the change from the TV series to the film format, address fans’ fears, and what’s next for the beloved couple.
Addressing fans who may be surprised that the show is ending with a movie instead of the traditional Season 4, Osman offered a reassuring outlook while speaking to Netflix:
“I completely understand that fans are a little apprehensive. It’s a big change from what we know. It’s something new and unknown, and yes, the runtime will be shorter than a TV season. Even I needed some time to process and adjust to the change. But once I started seeing the whole vision, I knew it would be even more beautiful than a regular season. We felt very ambitious about what was possible in the film format. There is no need for episode ending cliffhangers or a new twist in every episode, every part of Heartstopper can be elevated to a high quality to create something memorable, sophisticated and atmospheric.
For those desperate for hints before the film’s release in July 2026, Osman suggested checking out the free-to-read Volume 6 webcomics, noting that the final book allowed him to include “anything and everything I always wanted to explore with these characters”, including Charlie finding new confidence and healing, while Nick “faces a bit of a crisis about his future, haunted by memories of his past.” Have to do.”
Finally, Osman expressed his deep gratitude for the incredibly positive reaction of fans upon the film’s announcement, despite his initial nervousness:
“The excitement and joy of Heartstopper fans is a huge part of why we’re still able to tell this story years later. I’m so grateful to have such a passionate, supportive audience… I was very nervous about this announcement, but I shouldn’t have been, because the response has been amazing!”
With a runtime of 1 hour and 51 minutes, a star-studded returning cast (including Olivia Colman, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Derek Jacobi), and a focused, cinematic vision from Alice Osman, Heartstopper Forever is shaping up to be the tear-jerking, heart-touching finale the series deserves.
