Another one of Netflix’s earliest Netflix Originals may soon be biting the dust. As we’ve covered before and now confirm, betweenThe Canadian sci-fi thriller starring Jennette McCurdy is scheduled to leave Netflix globally on July 1, 2026.

If you’ve been a Netflix subscriber for over a decade, you’ll remember between As one of the streamer’s earliest experiments. Created by Michael McGowan, the series premiered in May 2015 and follows the small town of Pretty Lake, which suddenly falls apart after a mysterious disease wipes out everyone over the age of 21. Left to themselves, the surviving millennials and teens must deal with quarantine zones, government conspiracies, and each other.

The series stars iCarly alumnus Janet McCurdy as Willie Day, a pregnant teenager and a minister’s daughter, alongside Jessie Carrey, Ryan Allen, and Justin Kelly.

In addition to its interesting YA premise, Between holds a very unique place in Netflix history. Because it was a co-production with Canadian network CityTV, Netflix did not release the entire first season simultaneously. Instead, as we covered at the time, Netflix released new episodes weekly — a huge anomaly for the streamer in 2015 when the “binge model” was essentially their entire brand identity.

Netflix and CityTV eventually reverted to traditional binge-watching releases for Season 2 in July 2016, and dropped all six episodes simultaneously.

And then… nothing. Despite a tight ending that clearly set up a third season, the show fell into the dreaded “Ghost Cancellation” void. We tracked Season 3’s MIA status for years, but it eventually became clear that the quarantine at Pretty Lake was permanent. There was fan excitement for it (as evidenced by the nearly 2,000 comments on our article!), but for a variety of reasons, it wasn’t renewed, but never publicly canceled. It certainly didn’t help that the show’s main star, McCurdy, quit acting permanently but lives in People’s attention due to his writings.

Now, ten years after the debut of that final season, the series is leaving the platform altogether.

When is Between leaving Netflix?

Both seasons of Between (a total of 12 episodes) are currently streaming globally on Netflix 1 July 2026. Because the Netflix removal occurs at midnight Pacific Time on the date indicated, that will be your absolute last day to watch the series. 30 June 2026. The notice is now visible on the page.

Why are “Netflix Originals” going away?

As we often point out, the “Netflix Original” label is often applied to co-productions or shows where Netflix only has exclusive international distribution rights.

Between was produced by Don Carmody Television, Mulmur Feed Company and Elevation Pictures in association with CityTV and Netflix. Netflix’s involvement gave them exclusive streaming rights outside Canada (and eventually streaming rights within Canada as well).

Typically, these co-production licensing agreements last for ten years after the release of the final season. Since Season 2 ended on July 1, 2016, the contract’s 10-year clock has officially expired.

Where will Between Stream be next?

At this time, no new streaming homes have been announced. However, given that this is a Canadian production, the rights will likely revert in their entirety to the show’s original production companies and Rogers Media (CityTV’s parent company).

Like many discontinued teen shows, there’s a strong possibility that it will eventually appear on a free, ad-supported streaming platform (fast) like Tubi, Pluto TV, or The Roku Channel. But if you want to watch it ad-free on Netflix, or relive Janet McCurdy’s last major acting role before she retired from the screen to write her best-selling memoir, i’m glad my mom diedYou have a few weeks left to do this.
