The film marks the directorial debut of Quinn Whitney Wilson, who produced the project with co-director Viridiana Lieberman, the acclaimed editor of the Academy-Award nominated feature documentary. perfect neighbor (2025), which is one of Netflix’s most successful documentaries to date. There is also a long list of executive producers, including NFL star Travis Kelce.

Yet the myth and the man are not one and the same, and over the decades ‘Basquiat’ has become a nickname that no longer captures the whole person. The documentary will premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 5.
