Netflix has streamlined the way viewers discover book adaptations in its library. Introduction: Check out your favorite books.
Over the past few years, Netflix has become one of the most ubiquitous streaming services for book-to-screen adaptations. The journey started back in 2013 15-20One of Netflix’s earliest breakout hits, setting a precedent for book adaptations. Some of the most successful in recent times include bridgertonAdapting Julia Quinn’s beloved novels, and Lord of the FliesAdaptation of William Golding’s seminal novel. With book adaptations becoming so widespread on the streamer, Netflix has unveiled a dedicated hub, titled Check out your favorite books.
It follows in the footsteps of Your Zodiac Watch ListA feature introduced in 2025 that recommends series and movies based on users’ astrological signs.
Previously, Netflix viewers were able to find shows and movies based on novels directly from the app and website. The library has had a ‘Books Based’ category for many years. For more advanced audiences, there are category codes that allow more specific searches: not just book adaptations, but genres of book adaptations. They also had a category called ‘Book Club’, which is still active and can be found under code 81511805.
The streamer calls his new section Check out your favorite books, And it includes nine oddly named categories, each of which covers a different genre of book adaptations, from novels to comics. Category list is below:
- you want amazing characters (Speciality Sirens, it ends with us, remarkably bright creatures)
- You’re interested in immersive world-building (Speciality 3-Body Problem, The Vampire Diaries, The Man in the High Castle)
- You love a great plot twist (Speciality Man on Fire, Killing Eve, His and Hers)
- You enjoy swoonworthy romance (Speciality Normal People, Virgin River, Heartstopper)
- You are a nonfiction fanatic (Speciality Worst X Ever, Orange Is the New Black, Shrill)
- You are fond of history and periods (Speciality The Last Kingdom, Bridgerton, Mindhunter)
- You love adventures of all ages (Speciality Shrek, The Witches, A Series of Unfortunate Events)
- You collect manga and comics (Speciality One Piece, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia)
- You are very keen on web stories (The segment is not currently live on Netflix)
So what does a dedicated center for book conversion mean? “We’ve seen a real passion among fans for Netflix’s library of book adaptations. Our team sought to celebrate that fandom by creating a destination on Netflix for enthusiasts to explore their favorite stories and discover more stories they’ll love,” said Mansi Patel, senior director of product merchandising at Netflix. Netflix). “Building on the success of our recently redesigned experience and earlier fan-inspired collections like ‘Your Zodiac Watchlist,’ ‘Watch Your Favorite Books’ brings our library of book-inspired entertainment into an engaging, immersive space, making it fun and exciting to know what to look forward to based on your personal tastes and reading style.”
First Look at ‘See Your Favorite Books’ on Netflix (With AI Sloping)
The rollout of the feature has already attracted attention for the wrong reasons.
The image Netflix chose for the background – featuring books, a blanket and a cozy atmosphere all around – looks suspiciously AI-generated. If so, this is a strange and ironic way to start a category that celebrates book adaptations with books that don’t exist in the top right and shows and movies on apps on phones that definitely don’t exist. Add to this the garbled text, it’s a headscratcher. Why is Netflix using AI slop when they could have just photoshopped the actual books they’re adapting… who knows.
