Welcome to your weekend recap of everything new on Netflix US! It’s been a busy week with a total of 31 new releases in the library (18 new movies and 13 new series). Below, we’ll pick our favorite new additions and analyze what’s been dominating Netflix’s top 10 charts.
Of course, if you’re reading this shortly after publication, we’re just hours away from the Netflix show going live once again with Gina Carano taking on Ronda Rousey! If you’re catching it later, you’ll already know who won, but fear not — a full replay will be available on Netflix to stream on demand.
Live events aside, it’s been an incredibly solid mid-May week for the streaming service, bolstered by a huge comedy live event, the return of iconic anime properties, and a healthy dose of true crime. The best new movies and shows on Netflix this week
black phone 2 (2025)
Type: Movies
Style: Horror, Thriller Runtime: 1 hour 42 minutes
Thanks to Netflix’s relatively fresh and ongoing first-window output deal with Universal Pictures, this highly anticipated horror sequel is here black phone 2 The service officially launches this weekend. Continuing the terrifying story established in the first hit film, this is the perfect popcorn thriller to queue up for with the lights out this weekend. Expect it to go straight to the top of the movie charts by Monday.
The sequel once again received good reviews across the board, with it receiving a certified fresh rating. The group of positive reviews includes bilge ebiri for vultureWho wrote, “What’s remarkable about the Black Phone 2 is how different it is from the Black Phone in some ways. This may be a disappointment in some circles, but it also makes for a unique, unexpected experience.”
slow west (2015)
Type: Movies
Style: Western, Drama | Runtime: 1 hour 24 minutes
If you missed this underrated A24 indie gem from a decade ago, it’s finally back on Netflix US. Starring Michael Fassbender and Kodi Smit-McPhee, this beautifully shot Western film tells the story of a young Scottish man who travels across the brutal 19th century American frontier in search of the woman he loves, guided by a mysterious bounty hunter. It’s concise, stylish, and a must-watch for fans of the genre looking for something a little more offbeat.
goat (2026)
Type: Movies
Style: Animation, Family, Sports
Making his streaming debut, goat is a breezy, feel-good animated sports film that perfectly balances heart, humor, and great animation. It features a star-studded voice cast that includes Caleb McLaughlin and Stephen Curry[3]This PG-rated adventure is the best family movie night pick for this weekend. As expected, it’s already generating strong numbers, currently sitting comfortably at #8 in the top 10 movies chart.

However, the real story in the movie charts this week is the complete dominance of catalog romances and rom-coms. On TV Series Chart, True Crime Continues Its Undisputed Reign With Docu-Series worst ex ever Took top position (72 points).
However, the biggest winner of the week would be Kevin Hart. Not only did their Live Roast rocket up to the #2 spot with 60 points, but the algorithm clearly did its job, pulling viewers to their other content. Funny AF with Kevin Hart Up to #6 (29 points).
We also have to thank the hype machine working its magic for this weekend’s live fight. Countdown: Rousey vs. Carano managed to top the charts, proving that subscribers are officially tuning in and getting ready to ring the bell tonight.
