Author Elisabeth Benavente’s success continues on Netflix! Following the massive hit adaptations of his novels, Netflix has recently announced the release date and shared a sun-soaked batch of first look images for it. the whole truth behind my lies (I still miss a lot). The new limited series will launch globally on August 28, 2026.
If you’re a fan of Netflix’s Spanish offering, you’re probably already familiar with the “Benavent Cinematic Universe.” The writer has enjoyed a highly fruitful relationship with the streamer, having previously given life to four seasons of the fan-favorite series Valeriahit miniseries a perfect story (a cuento perfecto), and feature film feels like love (fuimos canciones).
We’ve had our eye on it for a while, we previously teased it in our roundup of new and returning Spanish series coming in 2026. Now, Netflix has officially unveiled everything we need to know about the upcoming summer drama.

What is the true story behind my lies?
Based on the novel of the same name by Elisabeth Benavent, published by Suma, the story promises a powerful blend of friendship, romance and deeply buried secrets.
Here is the official logline provided by Netflix Spain:
“The miniseries tells the story of Coco and Marin, two best friends who have been living together for years. Along with their entire friend group, they are about to set out on a caravan trip to celebrate their friend Blanca’s graduation party. What should be an adventure to celebrate friendship turns into a ticking time bomb as the secrets hidden between them slowly begin to unravel.”
As seen in the first look images provided by Netflix today, the show leans heavily on its summer road-trip aesthetic. We get a glimpse, via Polaroids, of the gang frolicking on the beach, a bride-to-be’s veil over a moped helmet (and later, over a wetsuit, hilarious), beach volleyball, and a retro yellow caravan that will serve as a pressure cooker for all those budding secrets.
Who has been cast in the series?

The series features a stellar array of Spanish talent. The lead pair, Coco and Marin, are brought to life by actors who have worked together before, promising great chemistry:
- Daniel Ibanez (Segundo Premio, Manual para Senoritas)
- Itziar Manero (Manuel para senoritas, las chicas eston bien)
He will be joined by a lively cast that makes up his close (but secret) friend group, including:

Who is behind the series?
Valeria fans will be thrilled to know that much of that show’s creative DNA has carried over. The series is produced by plano a plano (the powerhouse production company behind Valeria, Toy Boy and A Perfect Story), led by producer Cesar Benitez.
The project consists of a predominantly female creative team. It is co-directed by maria togoras And marina perez. Perez (who also served as a creative mind at Valeria) is playing dual roles here, having written the scripts as well. montana marchena.
Elisabeth Benavent herself is closely involved, serving as an executive producer alongside Angel Armada and Marina Pérez.
While initial development reports suggested a 7-episode run, Netflix’s official press release confirms that the final product has been neatly packaged 5-episode miniseries. Filming of the show officially wrapped in early August 2025, giving the post-production team plenty of time to polish this summer drama.
