As we previously covered when the show was in production, Below Filmed on location in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada between July and October of 2025. Produced and performed by jesse mcqueen (Umbrella Academy), the series is produced by Pacesetter Productions.

What is Below About this?
Described as a serialized drama, mystery and creature/monster thriller, the series takes place in a rugged, remote Canadian town that finds itself terrorized by a mysterious creature from the depths.
Here’s the official logline for the limited series:
“Calvin Penny (Josh Hartnett) is a big-hearted but stubborn fisherman living in a small Newfoundland town, still haunted by the mysterious death of his father decades earlier. When an unknown sea creature begins terrorizing his hometown, Calvin must fight to keep his close-knit community together. Determined to keep his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) and the rest of his family safe, he takes on the role of a marine researcher. (Mackenzie Davis) to confront the creature and uncover the island’s buried secrets before it’s too late, mixing local myth, thrilling mystery and heartfelt humor, this six-part limited series takes on the themes of family, community and change – both terrifying and inevitable.
Speaking to EW, creator Jesse McKeon revealed that producing a traditional “creature feature” as a limited television series allowed him to highlight the city’s rich, eccentric population. McCain said, “I always knew I wanted to build something here in Newfoundland. Ideally something big. And something weird.” “Something that highlights the terrible ruggedness and isolation of the place. But also something that reflects the tremendous warmth and singular talent of its people.”
For Hartnett, the series is more than just a monster. He told EW that the script speaks to a very relevant modern struggle: “It’s based directly on the feeling I’m having, which I’m sure is not unique, that the forces that determine our lives are so distant from us as people that it’s hard to even imagine being able to affect meaningful change for ourselves and the people we love.” He added that seeing a group of heroes come together to fight these terrifying forces provides “a very satisfying level of wish fulfillment”.
