In a surprise announcement, Netflix (via social media) has revealed all six seasons of the critically acclaimed Starz crime drama Power Officially headed to Netflix US for the first time.
The news arrived today via Netflix’s social media channels, confirming that American Library is finally getting in on the action on one of the biggest premium cable hits of the 2010s. The licensing deal brings all 63 episodes of the original flagship series to the platform. They only provided wide releases in November, although we know Netflix often schedules big licensing pickups for the first of the month.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Power Courtney A. It was created by Kemp in collaboration with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. It centers on James “Ghost” St. Patrick (played by Omari Hardwick), a ruthless, high-level drug kingpin in New York City who wants to go straight and leave the criminal underworld behind to run a legitimate nightclub. The series also stars Laila Loren, Naturi Naughton and Joseph Sikora.
While running from 2014 to 2020, Power Became one of the most-watched shows on Starz, eventually spawning a vast television universe with numerous spin-offs (Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising KananAnd Power Book IV: The Force). Currently, it looks like only original series are part of this licensing arrangement, but it’s still a big win for Netflix US subscribers.
A Familiar Show for International Netflix Subscribers
Whereas Power Having never been streamed on Netflix in the United States, international subscribers may have a slightly awkward experience.
for years, Power Was distributed internationally by Netflix. In fact, it was marketed exclusively as a Netflix Original in the UK, where the streamer had exclusive first-run rights. During its peak years, Netflix UK subscribers benefited from next-day weekly episode drops for Season 4 and Season 5.
However, that long-standing international arrangement eventually came to an end. Once Starz began expanding its own international streaming footprint (via Lionsgate+), the licensing rights expired, and all six seasons of Power left Netflix UK in August 2023.
Courtney A. Netflix’s ongoing relationship with Kemp
Bring in Power Series creator Courtney A. The move to American Library seems like a smart move given Netflix’s current relationship with Kemp.
After the huge success of Power Universe, Kemp signed a highly lucrative multi-year deal with Netflix in 2021 to develop new projects. That partnership came to fruition with the release of the hit series slavery.
