We have some bad news for fans of the classic 2000s sitcom. The first three seasons of the beloved comedy-drama game It is officially planned to leave Netflix US in mid-August 2026 after first being removed in mid-2023.
As we approach the end of the month, we’re starting to piece together the full list of movies and television shows scheduled to leave the service in August. Joining the list of departures will be the pivotal debut season of Mara Brock Akil’s hit series, game. As you may know, Akil created and stars in Forever for Netflix, which will soon return for Season 2.
Currently, Netflix is displaying a removal notice on the title page of the series indicating that the “last day to watch” is August 14, 2026. This means the series will officially go off the platform at midnight 15 August 2026.
One of the last wave of “strong black leads” leaving in 2020
For those who closely track Netflix’s library, the departure of game Symbolizes the end of an era.
In the summer and fall of 2020, Netflix made headlines when it launched Strong Black Lead Initiative Seven brought a huge wave of classic black sitcoms to the stage. Includes historical rollout moesha, game, sister, sister, girlfriend, parkers, half and halfAnd one by one.
If you’re wondering if any of those other favorite shows are still streaming on Netflix to mitigate this blow, the sad answer is no. As we’ve previously covered here at What’s on Netflix, licensing deals for the other six shows expire in the late summer and fall of 2023. game (Together) girlfriend And parkers) managed to survive its removal dates on the platform significantly longer than those other titles, making it the last survivor of that famous 2020 lineup to finally pack its bags.

Why were seasons 4-9 of The Game never on Netflix?
If you’ve been watching the show on Netflix, you may have noticed that only the first three seasons are available. Over the years, we’ve been asked repeatedly whether or not Netflix will ever add seasons 4 to 9 to conclude the story.
The answer comes down to network television history and changes in streaming rights. Originated as a spinoff of girlfriendThe first three seasons of game Originally aired on The CW between 2006 and 2009, before the network unceremoniously canceled it. The show was famously revived by BET in 2011, where it ran for six more highly successful seasons.
Netflix’s licensing deal with CBS Television Distribution (now Paramount) only covers the “classic” CW era of the show (seasons 1–3). The subsequent BET seasons were intentionally withheld, meaning that Netflix was never in a position to stream the entire series.
Where will The Game stream next?
Because the series is ultimately owned by Paramount, the natural streaming home for the series moving forward is Paramount+ (and its sister platform, BET+), but this was just one of many Shows return in mid-2023And according to Justwatch it is not streaming anywhere else (besides VOD services).
