Official Renewal Status: Officially Renewed for Season 2
Despite some initial criticism over the show’s performance, Netflix officially greenlit a second season. As we’ve covered in the past, to get a renewal the show has to demonstrate strong engagement, solid completion rates and popularity in its home country – and the Guinness family managed to pour the perfect pint.

How well did House of Guinness do on Netflix?
When? house of guinness First released on September 25 amid a crowded TV slate (released alongside Wayward and Alice in Borderland Season 3), its numbers were solid, but perhaps not the instant success many were hoping for.
Here’s an in-depth look at the global top 10 hourly viewership data from its first four weeks on the platform:
| week in top 10 | week period | hours watched | visual/cve | weekly rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 21 September to 28 September 2025 | 35,700,000 (New) | 5,200,000 | 3 |
| 2 | September 28 to October 5, 2025 | 44,400,000 (+24%) | 6,400,000 | 3 |
| 3 | October 5 to October 12, 2025 | 23,800,000 (-46%) | 3,400,000 | 8 |
| 4 | October 12 to October 19, 2025 | 14,700,000 (-38%) | 2,100,000 | 9 |
By the end of its fourth week in the global top 10, the series had earned 118.6 million viewing hours, equivalent to approximately 17.1 million complete viewing equivalents (CVE).
Although these numbers put it behind some of Netflix’s biggest UK hits like Baby Reindeer, The Gentlemen and Adolescence, it managed to avoid the dreaded “flatline” drop-off. The real saving grace for the House of Guinness? Excellent, consistent performance in the daily top 10 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it consistently maintained its hold on the heatmaps.
Of course, there’s the high demand for Steven Knight, along with the big cast (including a contract with two new seasons of Peaky Blinders) and the high cost of a period drama.
What to expect from House of Guinness Season 2?
WARNING: The following section contains spoilers for the end of Season 1. Proceed with caution!
Season 1 ended on a high note, with Patrick Cochrane shooting Arthur Guinness during a packed election rally. The screen cut to black before Arthur’s fate was confirmed.
So, where does Season 2 take us?
- arthur’s fate: Considering that Arthur survived the assassination attempt (after all, the real-world Arthur Edward Guinness lived into the ’70s!), hopefully Season 2 will highlight his increasing paranoia and ruthless political ambitions. The Guinness-Cochrane feud would undoubtedly escalate, and tear the already delicate family situation apart. If he can’t do that, the show will turn into a full-on succession crisis for Edward, Anne and Adelaide.
- expansion to usa: The finale sets the stage for a huge crossover story. With the Guinness Empire conquering the United States thanks to Edward and Byron Hedges, season 2 is expected to feature a transatlantic power struggle and expanding business horizons.
- Philanthropy and politics:Anne and Adelaide will continue to carry on the family’s philanthropic efforts. Historically despised by a large portion of the population, the hope is that the family will use much of the brewery’s profits to finance housing and essential goods for disadvantaged communities in an effort to unify Ireland.
- scandalous romance: Messy family matters are not over yet. Olivia is trapped in her marriage to Arthur, while her affair with Rafferty (with whom she has a child) continues in secret. Meanwhile, Edward is trapped in his marriage with Adelaide, despite his true feelings for Esme.
Netflix declined to comment. We first reached out a month ago, but agreed to wait until Netflix was ready. Variety has decided (once again) that today is the day.
