In the coming weeks, Netflix will see a number of heavy hitters, critical darlings, and cult favorites depart from its library.

maze (1986)
Jim Henson’s fantasy classic maze A must-see for fans of 80s nostalgia, practical effects, mesmerizing puppetry and of course David Bowie.
The film centers on 16-year-old Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), who desperately wants her crying baby to be taken away by the devil. When her wish is unexpectedly granted by Jareth the Goblin King (played with undeniable charisma and incredible hair by Bowie), Sarah is given only 13 hours to navigate a vast, supernatural maze to save her brother before he is transformed into a goblin forever.
Filled with iconic musical numbers and imaginative creatures, maze turns on netflix 8 August.
Huge (2016)
If you’re looking for an original take on the monster movie genre, look no further than Huge. Directed by Nacho Vigalondo, this sci-fi black comedy stars Anne Hathaway (who is currently rocking the big screen). odyssey) and Jason Sudeikis.
Hathaway plays Gloria, an unemployed writer struggling with alcohol addiction who moves back to her hometown to get her life back on track. Soon, she discovers a strange and terrifying connection: when she walks through a local playground at a specific time of day, she unknowingly controls a giant Kaiju monster that is currently destroying Seoul, South Korea. It’s a clever, extremely unique, and surprisingly profound allegory for addiction and toxic relationships.

free fire (2016)
Directed by British filmmaker Ben Wheatley, free fire is a high-octane action-comedy that takes a simple premise and executes it with chaotic, bullet-filled perfection that comes from everyone’s favorite indie studio: A24.
Set in 1970s Boston, the film brings together a stellar cast including Brie Larson, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer and Sharlto Copley for an illegal arms deal in an abandoned warehouse. When tensions rise and a stray bullet is fired, the meeting immediately turns into a feature-length, wildly entertaining shootout where everyone is fighting for their lives (and briefcases full of cash).

marry me (2022)
Jennifer Lopez, who has starred in countless big Netflix movies, stars as Kat Valdez, a global pop superstar who is about to marry her equally famous music-star fiancé (Maluma) during a highly publicized concert in front of millions of fans. But moments before she is due to take the stage, she realizes he has been cheating on her. In an impulsively heartbreaking moment, Kat’s eyes meet a total stranger in the crowd – a mild-mannered math teacher named Charlie (Owen Wilson), who accidentally has a “Marry Me” sign – and she decides to marry him on the spot. Driven by J.Lo’s megawatt star power and Wilson’s down-to-earth, everyman charm, it’s a sweet, music-filled crowd-pleaser. Is this Oscar material? Not exactly, but this is the kind of rom-com that’s got a second life on streaming as the genre becomes increasingly unviable at the box office.

boy wiped out (2018)
Sticking with Universal and moving over to their Focus Features label, we come to a powerful and poignant drama you won’t want to miss: boy wiped out. Based on Gerard Connelly’s 2016 memoir of the same name, the film was written and directed by Joel Edgerton, who also stars.
The film features incredible performances from Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe. Hedges plays Jared, the teenage son of a Baptist pastor in a small American town. After being abandoned by his parents, Jared is forced to attend a church-supported gay conversion therapy program, where he clashes with the manipulative head therapist (Edgerton). It is a painful but ultimately triumphant story of identity, family and self-acceptance.

Fall (2022)
If you’re afraid of heights, you might want to check it out with your fingers. Directed by Scott Mann, Fall was a sleeper hit that became a huge, viral success as soon as it hit streaming, and it’s one of the most nervy survival thrillers of recent years.
The film follows two best friends (played by Grace Caroline Curry and Virginia Gardner) who decide to climb an abandoned, 2,000-foot-tall radio tower in the desert. After reaching the top, the rusty ladder collapses, leaving them stranded on a small platform in the sky with no supplies, no cell service, and no way down.
