We’re keeping a close eye on Netflix’s upcoming historical animated feature step What’s on Netflix has been around for quite some time, and today, we have more casting news to share. The royal ranks are expanding, with Netflix officially announcing that Daniel Radcliffe, Peter Dinklage, and Young Mazino have joined the voice cast.

Set to hit our screens on November 20th, 2026, Steps is a big title for the streamer, being the first film to be produced entirely within Netflix Animation Studios. Directed by Alice Tzu and John Ripa and produced by Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, the film turns the classic Cinderella story on its head.

As we learned during our recent interview with directors Alice Tzu and John Ripa (where they revealed the film was developed off of a musical), the creative team is attempting to break the mold of the traditional fairy tale by making every character fully three-dimensional. These three new casting additions certainly reflect that goal.

Here are the details on who the new actors are playing, along with some exclusive info from the directors:

Daniel Radcliffe (voiced by Harry Potter, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story) King.

Co-director John Ripa shared his excitement about Radcliffe’s role:

“Our dream was that our fairy tale prince would be different from any prince you’d seen before, and Daniel made that dream come true. He brought his incredibly unique and subtle brand of quirky, big-hearted humor to our prince, and created a character that is irresistible and delightful. We were amazed by Daniel’s range and extremely sharp comedy chops, and he was simply a joy to work with.”

peter dinklage (Game of Thrones, The Station Agent) Roderick.

Co-director Alice Tzué teases Roderick as a very complex person:

“Peter Dinklage is a massive talent, and we’re so lucky to have him in the film. Roderick is a murderous man-turned-nanny who needs to be both scary and driven by love. Peter strikes that balance with incredible skill, adding gravitas and humor to the role.”

young mazino (Beef, The Last of Us) will play Gef.

Tzu notes that Gef will serve as a romantic interest for our lead:

“Geff is our unexpected heartthrob and one of our most beloved characters. As soon as we heard Young play Mazino, we knew he was the one. Young imbued Geff with endearing humility and the soul of a true artist, helping us create a love interest worthy of our heroine Lilith.”

Ripa said, “We feel incredibly fortunate to have all three of these enormous talents in our film.” “Our goal was to break the mold of the fairy tale by making every single character three-dimensional and worthy of happily ever after, and we couldn’t have done that without Daniel, Peter, and Young.”

Who else is starring in Netflix’s Steps?

Radcliffe, Dinklage and Mazzino are joining one of the most star-studded voice casts in recent Netflix animation history. As we’ve tracked over the past few months, the rest of the group includes:

If you need a refresher on the plot, here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming comedy:

“Do you think you know Cinderella’s “evil” stepsisters? Think again. Fed up with living in Cinderella’s shadow, Lilith (Ali Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother’s (Bette Midler) magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Stephanie Soo), breaking the Cinderella story as we know it and taking the kingdom to Priscilla. Doomed to the tyrannical rule of Dr. (Nikki Glaser) a villainous planner who swoops in and usurps the throne, Lilith must team up with Cinderella (Amanda Seyfried) to fight biker trolls, escape the Screaming Woods on an epic quest to save the kingdom, but most importantly, their relationship.

Behind the scenes, the screenplay is written by Ava Tramer, James Madejski, Jen Chuck, Dana Schwartz and Felicia Ho, based on a story by Tramer, Madejski, Schwartz, Ho, Riki Lindholm and Kate Micucci. Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing are serving as producers.
