Netflix continues to expand its huge Spanish-language slate la dama del norte (translates woman of the north) or its English name queenpinA brand new crime drama that has just begun production in Spain and Portugal. Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming series.
Produced by Daniel Esija – the prolific listener behind international hits like Locked up (vis a vis) And paco’s men– The new 8-episode thriller is produced by Good Mood (MediaOne) exclusively for Netflix.
What is queenpin About this?
Based on the novel of the same name by Ulises Bartolo, the series is inspired by the incredible true story of the female drug trafficker responsible for the largest cocaine cache seized in Spain during the 1990s.
Here’s the official synopsis provided by Netflix:
“la dama del norte It tells the incredible story of Diana García, a young woman who escapes to Madrid, leaving behind a terrible past. Along with her friends Penelope and Maricarmen, she becomes the head of one of Spain’s most ruthless drug cartels of the 1990s. In a world dominated by men, Diana imposes herself where they fall: she negotiates, leads, and survives. But his power wavers when Medina, the only detective capable of seeing the woman behind the criminal tale, crosses his path. The relationship between Diana and Medina, as deep as it is impossible, will put their loyalties to the test: as the police and the cartel close the net, both must choose between justice, revenge… or love that could leave them both guilty.

Who is behind the series?
Good Mood (MediaOne), founded by creator and showrunner Daniel Acija, is the production company bringing the show to life. The studio has a strong track record of creating stories that connect with audiences, having previously produced Spanish series Obstacle (La Valla), cristo y reyAnd Estoy Vivo.
Esija not only created the series but also served as an executive producer and co-writer. The writing room is run by Pablo Fajardo and Andrés Martín Soto (serving as script coordinators) along with Ignacio Campón and Olga Salvador.
Directing duties will be split between the eight episodes. esteban crespo And oscar santoswith Daniel Aranyo Serving as director of photography. Andres Arriaga, Javier Lorenzo and Ana Gomez are joining Ecija as co-executive producers.
Where is the series being filmed and when will it release?
Production officially began in mid-July 2026. According to Netflix, filming will take place in several stunning locations, including Madrid and the Galicia region of Spain, as well as Porto in neighboring Portugal.
Netflix has not set an official release date yet. However, given the current production schedule, we would expect la dama del norte Will hit our screens sometime in 2027.
