Big news for fans of military action dramas! We finally have a release date for one of the biggest shows coming to Netflix from the Paramount licensing megadeal recently announced at the beginning of the year. “Multiple seasons” of the hit series SEAL Team are officially coming to Netflix US on August 18.
As we mentioned earlier, seal Team Part of a surprise licensing deal between Netflix and Paramount Global that’s also bringing titles like Taylor Sheridan mayor of kingstown and medical drama watson for service. So far, we’ve only seen one major show coming to Netflix as part of this deal, which is Lawman: Bass Reeves Back in June.
Although we don’t yet have exact confirmation on how many seasons are coming on August 18, we do know that it will be “multiple.” Considering the huge backlog of shows, this is going to be a great show to end the summer with. We know it will be at least two, but will we get all seven seasons? We’ll find out soon, and we’ll update this post as soon as we know (we suspect it could be tomorrow, July 22, when Netflix is expected to drop the entire August schedule).
For those unfamiliar with the series, seal Team is a military drama that follows the professional and personal lives of Bravo Team, the Navy SEALs’ most elite unit. The series takes an in-depth look at the intense training, planning and execution of the most dangerous, secret missions around the world.
The ensemble cast is led by television veteran David Boreanaz (Bones, Angel) as Master Chief Special Warfare Operator Jason Hayes, the team’s respected but burdensome leader. The elite team includes Max Thieriot (Fire Country), Neil Brown Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), AJ Buckley (CSI: NY), Tony Trucks (Corporate), and Jessica Pare (Mad Men).
SEAL Team originally premiered on CBS in September 2017, establishing itself as a reliable ratings performer for the network and a fan-favorite procedural. It aired its first four seasons on traditional broadcast television before making a highly publicized and unexpected move toward streaming. Midway through its fifth season in late 2021, the series transitioned exclusively to Paramount+, where it enjoyed a successful run as a major original for the platform. This leap into streaming allowed writers to push the envelope, incorporating darker, more mature storylines and serious action sequences than network television. The series ultimately ended its run on the streamer in late 2024 with a seventh and final season.
Wait, isn’t Seal Team already on Netflix?
If the name sounds familiar, you may be thinking of Netflix’s own animated feature film! In December 2021, Netflix released an animated film titled seal TeamStarring the voices of JK Simmons and Kristen Schaal, about a real-life seal who assembles a team to fight against the great white shark.
To be clear: This new addition is the live-action David Boreanaz military drama, not the animated shark-fighting SEALs. (Although we recommend both!)
